Bob's boards have a special place in surfing folklore so I suspect that we are all looking at these as some kind of benchmark. Its just that we can't understand the volume issue. Where did Kagey's data come from?

Probably the same place that Lacey and Teatrees comments came from about the boards looking dated !!

PMSL ouch

Watch it Mac !!! the only thing saving you from a major asswhippin right now is Dave Simons Famous Indo attack - but that will not save you forever bucko !!

I have a Mctavish flyer that states the volume, I didn't just pull it out of the air, If I knew how to attach an Adobe file on here I would let you all have a peek.

If the GSI rep reads this can you please let us know when you will be publishing your suggested weight guides?

i've had a good look at these boards again. they just might be the ticket for a heavier types-ai little bit for competition for one part of the new naish range.maybe some of us only see the type of board we would ride and don't think beyond that
just a second impression of mine

Very shrewd man grasshopper !! But suckin up will get you nowhere

Also I do believe that Sir Raymond Gleave has been testing/riding McSups for a couple of years now and I would imagine that he has had considerable input into these new sups and if my memory serves me correctly he is one of the most gifted surfers ever to stand on a sup.

Maybe though, having the oz pedigree they will finally be a production board that was made for oz conditions ?? wouldn't that be refreshing.

FirstPoint, are you serious about a McCoy SUB? I think if anyone would know how to get a high volume board to perform it would be Geoff. His loaded dome bottom shapes work unreal in real world waves, Didn't think he would be into SUBs but hope he is, Couldn't see him hand shaping then as he can't keep up with the demand for his regular boards. not sexy looking boards though so don't know how they would sell in the fashion concious SUB market

As for Mctavish, he's beeb riding/shaping SUBs for years now, Keep your eye out for him Dogman, he surfs the rivermouth Nth of your place abit, very humble man willing to have a yarn with anyone (may be the Jo Vo thing) Has a unkanny nack of turning up at out of the way spots when they are on. Far from a band wagon jumper IMHO.

Locco,

With the twin flyers making it surf like a shorter board will that counteract ome of the vol issues????

IMO, too much volume for the length if those numbers are right.

i have heard from a few crew that stay there that he has been down there a few times

and seen a few sup boards laying around in front yards when ive been there in the last few months

the drive up the beach from here to the river mouth is washed out heaps so it leaves a small window to make it home

scored the little left in the mouth a few times as well as the right coming off the island to the beach

magic spot

ive got an ancient 6ft swallow tail single fin with flyers shaped by him that is waiting to be restored

These are definitely the figures quoted on the Mc SUP flyers, I have seen one.

I think the suggest weight ranges will only be a very rough guide as skill and balance as previously stated skill will play a large part in how successful you are in riding them.

Kagey said...

Has anyone seen or tried any of these yet? Any thoughts on them?

9'0" 130 litres, 9'6" 150 litres, 10'0" 162 litres

On a recent topic on Standup Zone, Blane made a very strong point that he didn't think volume played any part in his thinking when designing and making custom sups.More inclined to the old surfing length, width & thickness as his prefered method for determining surfability.???!!!Rod Hocker uses volume contantly in his discussions for the best custom fit.I do know one thing, i have ridden many boards with flyers over the years, and they do allow you to bury the tail and rail section very easily, maybe this is some of Bobs thinking? I would like to think Bob is serious about sup design , because you can rest assured Bobs forgotten more about surfboard design, than most people know.It will be interesting to see what riders think of his new sups.

Nah-I don't reckon-BUT those numbers may be wrong-so too early to speculate.

Flyers/stingers/wings etc are there to keep width but give you a narrow tail without pulling it in too radically-gives it some 'bite' too.

If those volumes numbers are right (and I suspect they aren't) these boards will be corks!

Just heard from GSI they state that the 9'6" Mctavish IS 150 Litres and weighs 10kgs, make of that what you will...oh and advertised rider weight will be up to 90kgs...????surely it could float heavier riders??

Hi Yall, Matty from GSI,
We've not released any litre/volumes for the boards, so it looks as though someones made a guess somewhere and sent it out. It'd be tough to make an accurate estimation from dimensions alone as there's too many variables like rail thickness and the weight of materials used in construction and their bouyancy etc.

We'll have the range up on the Global surf Industries's site shortly. It will have a rough weight guide but as we know it comes down to your ability as well, as to how small or large you wish to go.

Have a great week. I'm on annual leave from this moment on and will stepping away from the laptop and into the water. Catch you in a few weeks.

Global surf ind, Now has details on this range

The 9'6 is for learners under 90kgs and advanced riders under 110

I would say almost the same board as the PSH 9'6waa

Im sure you favourite PSH boards chip like everthing else.

It has nothing to do with construction but the rider learning.

IMHO

Yep, I heard they're only available direct from Hawaii at the moment as Southpoint have split from GSI and Southpoint haven't appointed an Australian distributor yet. That's what I heard from my local board store anyway. If you're really keen you could contact the Aussie company named on the website:
