Dj & all. I think beach rd is closed tomorrow morning for a tri or some other event. Noticed some signs up the other day. Might need to get access to sandy from the road alongside SHQ. Have fun.
Did a nice little dwinder from green point to beau'y with Al & Sluggo today . Thx to Al for looking after us. Stayed dry except for sweating out a few froday night beers

Yep. You've got Buckley's hope of getting in to Sandy, HMB or Ricketts tomorrow morning. Early afternoon (like 1:30) would be a better go if the wind is still right.

Spot on. Plenty of roads you could shut down for a marathon and it would have no adverse affect on anyone. Hume Highway for instance.

The BOM in their wisdom have changed Forecast Explorer

It's now MetEye and somehow I found this page that works for Port Phillip on my phone but can't find it on the site on my computer so I emailed myself the link!

Here it is:

Ended up going a little earlier than the main group as we were wary of it going NW a little later in the morning, and did St Kilda to Ricketts with Mike.

It was 'kn good!

There were some ok sized swells out there, too, and some 'kn good runners to be had. Fawkner Beacon was showing some gusts to 45 knots while both groups were in the water. It's 'moderated' now, just 33 knots at Fawkner as I type this - dead W.

I think DJ had some camera problems which is a pity 'cos there may have been some good footage today.

Yeah it was wild out there today.. No where near as clean as it normally is with our true northerlies.. It felt like the open ocean.
It seemed like there was so much west in the big swells rolling through and they were heading straight for the shore so you couldn't really chase them down because we had to clear Green Point to get to Sandy.. Once we got near Green Point and knew I was going to make it I turned my side pointing camera back at me because my main camera kept saying no card or card full (but it had been formatted).. These GoPro's get a bit glitchy at times.. The little bit of vid that I did get is pretty poor with lots of dried salt and water drops.. Fell in heaps today.. Even though it was hard work it was lots of fun..

Yep Cam, I agree. Some good, proper swells coming through off Sandy and, also, between the Cerberus and Quiet Corner. By that time in the run there was sufficient west in it to mean that the runners kept going all the way to Ricketts. A real hoot today.

I agree Ock, after a wild ride like that, the normal cruisey northerly DW is going to be a bit of a yawn. Might have to practice the headstands.

Glad to see you all made it home safely.
Have just returned from BRYC after restoring the medicinally required blood / beer level.
Photo attached (if I can work out how to post a photo).
If it looks like the waves are breaking over the pier, it's because they are...
I'm asked every time I go down now about the paddling thing, and tonight was no exception. One of the regulars down there said to me - "Ya should have seen it today - there were these three nutters out there today, one came in to Black Rock, the other two kept going. No idea where they were headed. They were bloody surfing!"
So I guess that will have been you Rosscoe and Camo Hosk...

On an associated front, the YC is discussing the opening up a new class of membership for paddlers/kayakers etc. It would be basically a Social membership with a key, aimed at people who use Half Moon Bay for paddling and could benefit from a Club membership. The obvious benefits being security for keys, phones etc whilst paddling, change room and showers, a nice warm shower after a cold winter paddle, somewhere to chill afterwards, and the somewhat lesser benefits of a bar, cold beer, restaurant, cold beer, some of the best views of the bay from the balcony, cold beer, not having to put up with idiot fishos in the car park, cold beer, not having to put up with idiot jet skiers in the car park, cold beer, and (did I mention?) cold beer.
Oh, and they do have wine for the girls.
Pricing is probably around $150 a year.
There is a real interest at the YC (and I daresay the LSC), so it's an untapped market for the sport locally.
It really is a good spot. For a social / family paddle on the weekend there's also bbq's , umbrellas, a section of grass upstairs to leave the boards.
If anyone is interested drop me a line and I'll kick it along with the Club - a group approach would be a good way to push it through at the best possible price - like any club it's always looking to increase membership.

Yep Helmy, I suppose that would have been Mike and me continuing on past Black Rock and Camo who came into the beach there. There was definitely some surfing happening coming past the carpark as there were some great waves there where the water was a bit shallower, but just off the Cerberus itself was more just a challenge to stay upright as the backwash coming off it was putting up some pretty big cross-waves.

PTWoody, as El Presidente of SUP Vic, is probably the person to speak to about membership. I think there could be some interest - particularly if there is a possibility to store a few things there (buoys, SUP Vic marquee, a couple of eskies etc) that we use during comps and events.

Hey Helmy, we definitely want to establish some kind of membership or association with BRYC for reasons Rosscoe mentions, but also the cold beer as you say. Give me a call during the week so we can work out how best to approach them. 0403240844
