It's on again, no resting around here!

Saturday, light but good direction for less experienced people for the St Kilda or Port Melbourne to Sandy run. Best time seems to be about 1pm

/images/misc/forum-image-missing.gif

Sunday, also excellent direction and stronger wind, looks like the typical winter northerly pattern, earlier the better, would be great to do a 7.30 start St Kilda to Ricketts and have a coffee at the cafe Silly ones continue onto Mornington??

No, but I'd be carrying a phone with you! I've got a spare waterproof case if you need to borrow one

I'll bring my marine VHF radios on Sunday. You just have to provide something to clip it to like a Camelbak or belt or maybe a pocket and you'll be able to call me or get on the emergency band if necessary.

Forecast Explorer on the BoM site is predicting slightly less wind early tomorrow. I'm heading for a surf tomorrow, I think.

If it's stronger on Sunday I'm up for an early downwinder. I vote for St Kilda to Ricketts. If we do that run, people are welcome to drop into my place (1 min walk from the beach) for a coffee afterwards.

Hey Roscoe,

super clean waves at Leo this arvo, uncrowded. Mmmmmm!

Liking the idea of early DW on Sunday.

Hey JC, reckon we meet at Ricketts around 6.45am so we can make the most of the dawn breeze?

Sunday morning is now looking like 30 Knots N/NW.. Yeah I've got a grin from ear to ear..

I'm thinking Port Melb to Sandy again.. unless we end up with a more north wind and then we'll start from our normal St Kilda starting place.

I'm also thinking 8.30am meet at Sandy and 9am start at Port Melbourne because the wind should be best early.

Sorry DJ I'm with Wooz on this one, look at the BoM hourly forecast or the Sea Breeze graph, it goes West pretty early, the earlier start the better. 6.45 at Ricketts sounds bloody early and cold but perfect!
So that would be realistically 7.30 start at St Kilda or Port Melbourne depending on how it goes in the next 24 hours. For people that want to come along but don't want to do the whole distance why not start at Green Point at 8.30ish?

See you at 1pm today.

As far as tomorow goes this is what the BOM says... They're saying true north?

DJ

Sunday 26 June
Winds
Northerly 20 to 30 knots.. tending north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots around midday.. then tending west to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon.

I think early is looking the best. And yes, it seems that it will be true N, or close to it. Somewhere between 20 - 30 knots. Sometime between 10 am - 1:00pm it is forecast to go more NW and dropping in strength.

Are we still doing St Kilda to Ricketts?

I think this is a good option. Let's us do the Green Point to Black Rock stretch, which I think is often the best part of the run. The coast turns a little easterly as you go past Halfmoon Bay/Quiet Corner, but it's not far from there into the beach at the Beaumaris Yacht Club. It is also a bit better for landing/loading boards than Black Rock. You have sand and grass, rather than just concrete car park. It's a little more sheltered from a northerly, too.

If so, note that there are two carparks at Ricketts Point. The one we want to meet at is the smaller carpark, the entrance to which is on the city side of the Ricketts Point Tea House. It is the one where the Beaumaris Yacht Club is. I suggest we meet meet there if this is the option we do.

Agree on that Roscoe, see you there in the morning. If anyone wants to do a shorter run meet at Green Point at about 8, we can pull in there and pick up whoever is waiting. Looks good

I know Warwick suggested 6:45am at the Ricketts carpark. What say we make 7:00am sharp - that way at least it is light. lol.

So, Jonathan, unless you say something different, what say we meet you adjacent to the Beaumaris Yacht Club at 7:00am.
