Hi folks,

Newbie to forum and SUP itself. I've got a couple of questions so thought i'd ask

Might be moving to Melbourne through work and wondered how big SUP is in Melb, and if the SUP community is pretty active? (currently in Auckland, NZ where SUP is still pretty new so not an awful lot going on).

Coming from NZ and having grown up in the UK, I want to ask about sharks and just what folk who paddle in/around Melbourne have to offer in terms of advice etc ??

Cheers

Hi Matt
Don't worry about the sharks they only like Aussies, I'd be more worried about the ones walking on land . You should hear something from David John he's the Mayor of Melbourne , I think he's whatching Collingwood win the Premiership (that should draw some heat) TB

Yeah.. Don't worry.. I can watch the game with my laptop on my lap.. .. May the best team win (as long as it's not Collingwood)..

Re paddling in Melbourne.. I once saw someone paddling around St Kilda on a stand up paddle board but I've heard there are sharks everywhere... also there's a very nasty shore break and the set waves often close out and you get cleaned up big-time if you get caught inside.. St Kilda is no place for beginners..

Send me a PM..

The whole of Port Phillip Bay has become DJ's secret spot so we are all under threat of deportation if we comment on how big SUP is in Melbourne.

Just message DJ for the Low Down on SUP Melbourne !

Various flatwater and Down Wind options around the bay.

Surf is available on tap outside of Melbourne, especially through the cooler months....

Sharks are not a problem.... No serious hot spots... luke warm spots around the two bigger seal colonies at Nobby's Phillip Island, and Cape Bridgewater near Bridgewater, near Portland. Whale, seal and dolphin sightings outweigh men in grey suits by roughly 100+ to 1.

Beers Up!,
I've been around a bit, including well over a decade in NSW, but I can't believe I've NEVER heard of GayFL before !

I'll do you a deal, let's not start the debate....

But AFL is a 3D game, using hand and foot, and going forwards and back... Fast game... (but you like what you grow up with!)... But I strongly believe that a years worth of AFL highlights compressed into 5 minutes is more visually spectacular than Rugby League, Union, or The World Game.

Hi Simondo, for the record the term that beersup refers to is commonly use up here.
I agree AFL is a 3D game and a good game at that, however the real men take the stage today

i've got no idea why you guys are making that call. have you ever been to a live game. takes a lot of guts to stick your arms up in the air when you know there a guys coming in to smash you for all directions- you don't even see em. league you can see what's coming.league suits the tv camera- everything centres around the ball. go and see a top level afl game live. it's the best to watch out of all them
cheers
ps played soccer, league and union

Heaps of sharks in Mebourne. I have seen pictures of DJ with one he caught by the tail with his bare hands. Seen pictures of Oliver wrestle an eight footer to the beach after it knocked him off his board. Seen pictures of DJ exploring the shipping channels and the views from the channel markers.
Forget AFL and Rugby..... go Supping!

What a great rainy weekend for sport. So far i've watched:

Kelly Vs Mick, Danny Ching vs Jamie and Travis.

Now for the League Grand final while I cook a Lamb Roast, check the breze and drink a beer or 4.

Born in Victoria and played GayFL until I moved to QLD at 12 from under 5's onwards. Played League and Union all through high school. Union best to play, League the best to watch. AFL..... I honestly can't even sit through a whole game..... Bores me to death, I prefer to watch soccer.

I just hate the no offside thing, how can their be strategy when you can you can just kick it as far as you can to someone at the other end of the field?? Pointless. Flamie suit well and truly buttoned up.

What amuses me most about this perennial football coding pissing contest is the way people north of the Murray get their knickers in a knot whenever we refer to whatever form of their game as rugby instead of league (like there's a difference?) but then they insist on calling our game AFL or more tediously gAyFL. You know that's not the game right? Not like anyone calls soccer "FIFA".

Hey Matt77
Welcome to the forum. You must be astonished at the way your post asking about Supping in Melbourne has been hijacked by AFL Rugby and Soccer. Thats why Laurie has the red thumb feature. And I thought it was a SUP forum too!
When you get over here enjoy your supping!

I've been refraining from commenting, but hey, what the heck. Time to continue to lower the tone of the forum!

On the gay stakes, can I ask whether rugby players require a little lube so that four guys can push 3 guys' heads up 2 guys arses?

I'll retire for a little while now, so u should save your abuse for later.
