Stumbled across this today, a bloke named Dave Cornthwaite Supping the entire length of the Mississippi River. He also Skateboarded across Australia in 2006-07 in addition to many other adventures.

In the middle of 2011, Dave plans to Stand Up Paddleboard the length of North America's most iconic river, the Mississippi.

Starting in mid June, the Mississippi Expedition will take three months, winding through the Upper Lakes and through several major cities, including St Louis, Memphis and New Orleans.

The Expedition aims to provide a platform for flatwater Stand Up Paddleboarding as a healthy, enjoyable sport, linking communities along the waterway, encouraging an appreciation of the Mississippi River through sport and travel as well as highlighting the issues faced by the river.

Dave will speak in many of the communities along the way, incorporating his ongoing journey along the river with his previous (and future) adventures, all the while filming a documentary of a journey that if successful may be a World Record Distance by Stand Up Paddleboard, a record currently held by the amazing Tom Jones from the USA.

Epic SUP paddle!

This reminds me of a book I read many years ago about a father and son who paddled 12,000 miles in a Canadian canoe. Their journey included the entire Mississippi River, starting in Canada somewhere (Winipeg?) and ending at the mouth of the Amazon river. It was a great read and a truely inspirational paddle.

Here is a link to the book if anyone is interested: www.amazon.com/Paddle-Amazon-Ultimate-000-Mile-Adventure/dp/0771082568
