Hi all, The suping is going well, I can now ride my dad's 10ft nalu as well as launch off the dock at the lake.
Weight is coming down.
I would really like to track my time on my sup with my mobile and am in the market for a new handset.
I was thinking of getting the sony z3 or a new iphone but what If I drop that baby in the water.
Does anyone use a phone or watch to measure track their paddling online.
Thanks again guys for your advice the nalu and avanti are sooooo great on the lake.

I haven't used a phone but I've used a Garmin 620 GPS watch quite a lot for windsurfing, running and now SUP. It can track your course, distance, speed etc, monitor heart rate, calorie burn etc. You can then down load it all onto Google earth and interact with a Garmin program, you can even share data with other people if you want, I've found it pretty good and fun.

I'd second a GPS watch like a Garmin Forerunner or Fenix. The Fenix has a swim function, so it is waterproof, and will work for almost any sport where you are covering distance (running, cycling, swimming, paddling, SUP, skiing etc).

Trying to waterproof and carry a mobile phone on the ocean is just too hard.

I use an overboard waterproof case and suptrotters app for tracking and data.

I use the Sony Xperia z3 compact which is waterproof but I would never take it in the salt water, salt and electronics never mix regardless of waterproof claims, Sony explicitly say avoid salt water, if you are intent on taking your phone in the sea or any body of water I would suggest you use a otter box which tend to work well with Samsung galaxy phones, I would recommend this one

I just downloaded the sports tracker app and use one of the waterproof phone pouches from paqua www.paqua.com.au, I know sports tracker probably isn't the most accurate but still allows me to keep track of time and distance paddled. I've used the paqua pouches for years and they've never let me down

I use iPhone 4s in a lifeproof waterproof case, which I then put in a waterproof pouch. This system has protected the phone in a couple of swims, but still enables use of the phone features.
I track my runs with motionX tracker, which has maps and sharing features. it also has audio progress updates, which are great for telling you how fast you are going without looking at the phone. its a faily cheep and cheerful system, but works due to the audio updates.
Cheers HB
