I know Reagan baught this topic up a while ago and after doing The Doctor last weekend would definitley love to do some more races. Again I know Reagan has been in contact with Caneoing WA and they are happy to include a SUP division if we can get the numbers. From looking at the race calendar

www.wa.canoe.org.au/wp-content/uploads/old-files/wa/downloads/CWA%20Online%20Calendar%2029%20Oct.pdf

there are a few events that would be suitable. Even if amongst ourselves we decided on certain races that would get the most people it is a start.

How many takers have we got out there?

I think on the east coast some of the outrigger clubs have included sups in their races. That may also be an option.

Count me in.
Looking at trying from the south end of the Mandurah estuary to the "Cut" in the next few weeks if anyones interested. Perfect run in a S to SSE breeze.

Always keen for a paddle with enough notice, just need to pull your board in the shed line and talk about for weeks before hand so when it comes time to actually doing it it is old news and doesn't get too much of a reaction.

I will look into the outrigger clubs as well and see if they maybe do shorter races as it might get more people interested.

There is a Social down winder paddle on Feb 6th. Will post more info when I find out times and location.

That Estuary paddle sounds good Jenkz count me in.

If the conditions are onshore I would like to try the Woody point to B/Beach at freo sometime.

Count me in. I have done a run from the Cut across the estuary when it was a south westerly and that was pretty fun.

I'm keen for something local. Our conditions are perfect for Port to Marmion or anywhere in between. Transport is easy, no boats needed, no life jackets needed, no flares needed, allround easier and more suited to our arvo winds.

I did the doctor last week and am definately interested in doing some more races. I have paddled kayaks in a few of the races that canoeing w.a. put on and would be interested at looking which ones would suit SUP.

I've just had a good chat with Colin Bartley, who is involved with the Mandurah Outrigger Club. I was given his name from Jodie from Kia Kaha and he is heavily involved within the outrigging community here in WA. He has just got a stand up and is keen to get into the stand up and also for us to get involved in some of their races and activities.
They will be holding a paddle technique session sometime in Feburary and if anyone is interested we are welcome to go along. It will be related to oc1 paddling but obviously a lot of the techniques will be the same.
The Mandurah club will be having a race meeting on the morning of the 14th of March and in the afternoon of that day they are planning on doing a downwind run from the cut to halls head. I asked Colin if it was ok to spread the word and he is keen to involve sup in this.
I reckon there is more in common between sup and outrigging so these guys might be the ones to talk to and hopefully allow us to get involved in some racing and down winders as well as learning more about correct paddle technique.

good stuff, the oc crew have the paddling thing wired.oc clubs getting involved with sups is a good thing imo. i have a bit of a crazy idea for oc paddlers if any looking at the breeze. i would like to do some oc paddling. is it possible to get a seat made out of hd foam that could be set on a d/w board to mimic the oc style, i realize there is no out rigger, but the boards should be stable enough. i have watched some sup pers do some oc work and you can see the improvements
cheers

I think that most people over this side of the country got into stand up from surfing or windsurfing, like me. I've had no paddle training so any help and advice from the outrigging community is going to be of great assistance.

It would awsome to get a airline as a sponsor so we can get our boards over there and back from QLD and NSW cheap.

That's the last thing we need is all you guys and girls coming over from the East Coast on a weekly basis to show us up! Just kidding the more the merrier.

Anyone have any connections into the industry? I know someone on here is a bag handler...

Colin Bartley here, Adam spoke to me the other day about SUPs and outrigging and I would be happy to share any paddling knowledge I have.

I also got and email from Travis Grant saying he had a ball over here and would be back to do some more races. He also said the board he raced on is for sale. Here is a some of his email.

"Good to hear Sup guys want to get into Outrigging. Same thing is happening over here. Its like this big training secret or something. Funny. I just tell people SUPs is just like Outrigging only standing up. They believe me because all the top Sup guys over here and Hawaii are all ex or current top outrigger paddlers.
Anyways the reason for the email, We left the 12'6" board I used over there. So if some guys want to try and and buy it, it's in Cottesole at Funs Back surf shop there, Peter Dunn is the guys name who is holding for us and it is for sale. I dont know how much its not my board but Dake Chappman left it there to sell. Its a really good board, the fastest 12'6" boards out there. I have won all my races to date on that board, not that board but same design. Undefeated. Anyways if you could let the sup and or outrigging guys know that its there and for sale that would be great. Have a test paddle, and if more then one guys wants it call or email Dale Chappman himself, and he can make another one and send it over. He has a website. Dale has been really good to me sponsoring me a board and that at every race, he flew me to WA as well. He does by far the fastest 17ft board as well.
Thanks Collin.
HAve a good one

Hey Barts,
Great to have you on the breeze. It'll be good to have someone with a strong paddling background to give us some tips as well as someone local with a connection to the outrigging community. I forgot to ask you the other day, what sup did you end up getting?
Cheers,
Adam

Hi Adam,
Happy to share the knowledge. I got a board from a mate in Melb who runs the Outlaw Ocean Racing Series over there. He has them made in Thailand. It's an Outlaw 12'6" board, 32" wide and 5" thick. Big and stable for a beginner like me! Sorry SF66 I don't know how wide Trav's board was.

cheers

I had a chat with Peter Dunn (I think that's his name) from Fun's Back surf shop. He thought it was 27 1/2 or 28 wide but wasn't sure. They want $1800 for it with bag and fin.

Anyone up for a downwinder Saturday arvo.
Different location maybe Woodmans Pt to Sth Beach?
Pure windwaves no swell due to the protection of Garden Island.
