I picked up my new 8'9 Laguna last Saturday here on the Goldy. I am up with the family for 8 days and Scott from Greenline was kind enough to have the board delivered to his shop. Then even helped me put the grip on! Legend.

Anyway was lucky enough to get some pumping Currumbin and got to meet a heap of friendly crew including Jacko, Lacey, Ali Cat and even Dale later in the week. Had a few surfs with Casso even.

OK the new stick. As you can probably see from the photos it looks the goods, it is in fact the most aesthetically pleasing SUP i have laid eyes on! The rocker is perfect as far as I can tell and it paddles great despite being 6 inches shorter than my ripper with lower profile rails and a touch narrower! The nose lift allows it to climb whitewater more easily and it is far more agile when turning to catch waves. It is no less stable but a touch slower to paddle.

I have had about 8 surfs on it now, mostly in knee to waist high and it flies. You can chuck it up onto a lip or whitewater with ease and it carves very tight arc turns without any slip or slid. The first 2 surfs I was sliding a bit, but I moved the centre fin back 25mm and this sorted it no worries. I am running 3 Occies. In fact the third surf after I moved the centre fin was in head high to over head (on some) Currumbin with Jacko and Casso. There were some absolute screamers and the board flew. Drivey off the bottom and snappy off the top. I was still finding my feet a bit but so far stoked. Thanks Tully for building a sic board, by the way this is a pretty new model for Laguna with the more 'shortboard' look. Here are some pics featuring some of my rugrats:

hi, good to see you got it sorted with fins. when i driving to work on monday i knew it was on
cheers
ps i don't think i've ever seen someone catch so many waves as you on sunday morning. you were riding everything and anything, even if it wasn't a wave you poked it with your paddle just to make sure- a guy on a mission to get as many waves as he could on the new stick

Cheers guys.

Scotty, it is 28 1/4" glassed. I reckon it is about 110 - 115 litres cause I put my little bloke on it for a paddle - combined we weigh about 105kg and there wasn't much left in the water except the nose.

Beautiful board mate - and yet another Noosa SurfWorks triumph. I hope the new Laguna Model the "little gem" that I am taking delivery of in 2wks is half as good as this one.

Got back from the Goldy yesterday arvo and tried her in some head high plus Long Reef Bombie for the late. This is more typical of the waves we ride a fair bit in Sydney, ie peaky, fat, some suck and a bit of power. Coming off the bottom felt like I had a turbo boost on, no slide and could push as hard as I wanted. I can tell she might be a handful in say 10 -12 foot plus faces but at this size very comfy off the bottom. The reason I say that is the wider tail felt like it 'tracked' once, but was a technique issue I reckon as has only happened once in about 50 bottom turns yesterday. Though it is not for those waves you surfed the other day Hilly!

It does have quite a bit of nose lift but also has a nice amount of concave running into a double concave. The speed it generates is unbelievable. This is the first time I have felt comfy doing drawn out cutbacks on my backhand as well - thanks once again to the drive through turns.

I still have to ride a heap more surf types to give it a fair test but so far it is shaping up to be an awesome stick for that shortboard SUP style of surfing.

Dogman, you would go nuts on this thing mate, although I am 82-3 kegs so it could be a bit sinky with the extra pies on board I'll have her at the goldy in Nov and the Mambo the following week, so have a paddle.

Hey Goaty,

Really stoked for you, it looks wicked. Does it paddle in well, and have good drive.

Hey, the front cover shot, how good is that.

I just go back from the British SUP association contest at Watergate Bay, had three days on great waves, and the Laguna Bay didnt let me down. Might have to hit Tully up for the pointy nose model !!!

Get some insurance on the thing before Dogman snaps the thing.

Cheers Gareth, yeah go for the new model next time for sure.

It paddles in really well (only fractionally less than the Ripper) but so much more forgiving on drops and in tight turns. The drive is awesome.

Hey goatman - hows are you settling into the new laguna a week and a bit down the track. I have had a couple of lagunas and found that I keep discovering new things about the board every coupla surfs and just cant believe how much easier everything is on them in comparison to some other boards where you have to really set up a move where the laguna just seems to roll into it with very little or no effort. I am absolutely hanging to pick my new baby laguna up next weekend at the sunny coast demo day and hope to try out some of the other new little toys that will be on offer also.

Hey Cam, started on a 10.6 and then went to a 10.0. My problem is that my bloodsucking mates take my boards for a weekend and come back with a big smile and cash (and no board) they wont give em back ! so I am constantly short of boards and Tully is sick and tired of me ringing him for new boards. In some ways though its good cos i can experiment a little along the way.

Like you I am a starboard fan as well and ride a 9.0 extremist (when my wife lets me) so I have challenged tully to make me a tiny board that gives me all that stability and fun of the starby but with all the high performance and edginess of a laguna bay sup. The board is a new model called the "little gem" and is named after his new beautiful baby girl (aaahhhh). It is going to be 8.6 x 30ish (or a tad under) x about 4 1/2 to 4 5/8. It is going to be a stable high performance board for lightweights and tully reckons will float and perform for a guy into the 90kg area. (yep big call but the little guy has never let me down yet.) I am 77kg so it reckon it is going to be the most insane (but stable and fun) board ever made. The board will also obviously be an absolute corker for smaller ladies and girls who need a lighter weight and easier board to handle that is still forgiving to learn to surf and paddle on.

The pressure is definately on Tully with this one !! Will be unveiled next weekend so fingers crossed. Can't wait.

Update, bump her back to the top!

Had the new stick out in some solid DY point this morning (overhead sets) and was curious how it would go off the bottom on a real solid wave.

Was very pleased to find she flew off the bottom without a hint of tracking or sliding, just full drive. This style of board is where it is at for pocket surfing on gnarly waves IMO. The OS crew reckon they are leading the way with SUP design but from all the vids I have seen these little Aussie rockered out weapons are the ticket. Stretch em out a bit for the 2 and 3 time overhead stuff and they would be insane!!

A bit of a rant I know but I am a tad excited - sadly a bit like a 12 year old with his first fibreglass
