I think I either need to replace or flush my vent screw on my dc14. How do I remove it?

On my DC14 I used a socket set to unscrew the plastic vent plug - but I over did it and snapped the top section of the plug off! Pilers is another option but I also snapped the top off the vent plug on my NSP. What ever you do be gentle as the top of the vent plug is held in place by a few tiny plastic posts which shear off easily. I had to replace two vent plugs recently by taking them out!

You can buy spares from Shapers on the Gold Coast.

Be very careful not to over tighten the plug. Use just the socket. No need for the wrench.

I'm not sure if my vent is leaking or a bit of water just gets caught in the vent, but the other day I had the board on the roof racks in the sun with the top of the board facing down. The vent was hissing and blowing a few bubbles. I took it off and put it in the shade right way up and tried to unscrew the vent and managed to break the cover off. I pressed the cover back I and have surfed it a couple of times and been for a downwinder and the cap is still on but would like to get the vent out and see what's going on.
Is this the one I need the black plastic one for about $13 and is the thread correct?

Make sure you buy the "gore-tex" plug

This thing:

http://www.shapers.com.au/gore-tex-breather-values/

you shouldn't ever need to take one of these out (that's the point of them). Just flush with fresh water reasonably regularly (there is a school of thought that says the gore-tex membrane in the breather can get clogged with salt crystals and sand, flushing with fresh stops any buildup)

When you replace the old one, make sure you use the correct socket and the new plug is properly seated in it and go carefully. Otherwise you'll rip the top off of the new one.

(Note - the old one will still work without the top bit of plastic on it, but the Gore-Tex membrane won't be as well protected so you could still use the board, maybe out a bit of tape over to protect it)
