Hi from Italy and congratulations for this forum which is driving me in the fantastic SUP world. I am a windsurfer, surfer and kiteboarder too. I weight 70 Kilos and I'm buying a new Naish 10,6. Do you think this board is only a good surfing SUP or (for my weight) also could be used like a decent cruiser? Thanks in advance and...a big ciao from Italy.

Regarding the 10'6" Naish..I have this to add.

A few days ago I was contacted by a local Melbourne girl that has been following the forum and thinking about buying a SUP board for herself.

She'd noticed that I had offered others to try my boards and she asked me if she could also have a go.

I was going to ask how fat she was..well you know what I mean....How heavy.... but thought it'd be too rude to ask.

So I took down my big 11'6" Naish because if she sank my 10'6" it would be a bit embarrassing for her....plus the big 11'6" is a better choice to start off on.

We met and she was a spunk......She kite surfs so she's as fit as..and also a light weight.

I used a SHQ Mistral Pacifico and she used my 11'6"...and it was all too easy for her..but then it was very glassy conditions..

Here's a pic..(I hope she doesn't mind me posting this).

She is keen to buy a board and said that she would love to try my 10'6" Naish..so we made a date for the next day.

Here's a pic of her on my 10'6" Naish..She had no problem at all with it floating her..and IMO it would be a perfect choice for her as an allrounder.

Later she had another go on my big 11'6" and if felt like a big barge to her..but then I think that she would be only about 60kg.

Jeez I'm in trouble if she's less than that..

Revvin used my 10'6" last week and with him being almost 100kg the 10'6" was a bit too sinky..and very tippy.

So...Hopefully soon we will have one more SUP'er here in Melbourne...and a pretty one at that..

Thanks "mates". I'm very impressed about your competence and genuine passion. I'm looking forward to trying this board. I started supping with the Starboard Cruiser 12,6 but unfortunately that board burned during a fire in my garage. Thank you again and ciao from Italy!

yeah the 10'6 is a good board and have had some good sessions on it, the 11'6 was also a great board to learn on but you out grow it pretty quick if you are in to wave riding i still use it a bit for ocean paddles but that's about it. The 10'6 is a good next step and you can chuck it around in the waves more but is more of a longboard felling. I've been riding the 9'6 C4 this week and lovin it and i hate to say it but i don't want to go back to the 10'6. It truly is a different sport you can do short board turns tail slides and the turns are direct. After riding this board i don't want to ride any thing bigger and i am thinking maybe even smaller could be the go.

All in all they are all good boards and all serve there own purpose and if you're after the long board fell then the 10'6 is sweet if you want more then go short.

Hi and thanks for the additional info. I never rode a C4 board but I saw a lot of them last year in Maui during my windsurfing vacation. Yesterday I tried the Gong SUP Greedy 10,2 and I was stoked. Pretty stable platform for my weight and, all considered, good in flat water cruising. Nevertheless I've just ordered to my local distributor the Naish 10,6. I think this board will be a good compromise for our conditions. Here in Italy (I lived near Rome just in the center of Italy) the waves are not a s frequent as other seas like Pacific Ocean. So if I lived in your beautiful Country I would buy as Paul J. says even a shorter board than the 10,6. A big "ciao" from Italy and thanks again.

Congrats carl..You're gunna love the Naish 10'6"...it just looks right..imo...btw I've use a C4 board are they are nice but they're also a bit pricey.

If compression dents in the standing area is an issue (even tho I've not seen it)..It would be a good idea to put a deck pad on from new...Have you thought about that?

I like the new Naish camo deck pad with the side ramps but anything would be better than nothing.

Hi. Thanks David for this tip. I've already checked the availability of the deck pad because I don't like putting wax on my sup board. So the 10,6 should be shipped by the local Naish distributor with the deck pad on it. For the record this afternoon in my home spot (Latina beach) after an ultra light wind kiteboarding session (8/9 Knots with Flysurfer Speed 2 19 and Spleene Monster) I went out again with the Gong Greedy 10,2 (literrally stolen to my brother..) and again I had fun. This board should be very similar to the Naish 10,6 even if the fins are different in number and position (four fins for surfing, just one for cruising). Now here in Italy it's time to sleep and just .....to dream about the next epic supping session. Ciao, thank you again and have fun!

Hello all !
I'm new here , i'm French and i started SUP a month ago . I think it's a great sport with a lot of fun and a verry good core training .
I started with a used Gong Greedy 10'2" (now its called "gravity") and i like this board so much . I'm 75 kgs and i like it for cruising and surfing but i'll want to buy a new board with a little more volume for better cruising ability (and with a very light weight) . The Naish 10'6" seems great for what i want but i didn't find the thickness of this board anywhere . Can someone tell me this ?

For better cruising ability i think the 10'6" will be great in single fin configuration than the thruster set up . Did someone test that thing ?

Thanks in advance and have good fun with Sup !

Bye .

I'm pretty sure it's 4" think.

I've used mine as a single fin for that reason for a while..and to be honest I don't think it made much difference.

I think single fins must have less drag (depending how big the fin is) because the side fins are doing a sort of 'snow plow' because they're angled in.

But..I reckon the side fins also help with stability and help make the board track straighter..If the board is crabbing a bit from yawing it will slow the board down..and it takes away the advantage of using a single fin.

It's a bit of give and take...I'm now using smaller side fins..sort of like a compromize..and I think because you are paddling at such a slow speed the snow plowing effect is very minimal and not worth worrying about.

Also...Unless you are under about 75kg I would not recommend this board for cruising..You would be much better on the bigger 11'6"..because the 10'6" does not have much volume and because of the thin rails you will get water flowing over the deck and slowing you down..and the 28" width can make it pretty tippy in rough water.

Hi DavidJohn , and thank you for your responses .

That's a beautiful board, but i think you right ..

may be 28" Wiidth and 4" Thick will be not good for cruising ...

this my board : www.gong-galaxy.com/magazine/pics/1-hour-4-boards/

as you can see, its only 10'2" but 29" 3/8 width and 4" 2/3 thick ...145L volume and for me it's ok for cruising .
in comparaison the Naish 10'6" has 160L but may be the rails and thick/width are more important for cruising ability .

I think i'll must try the Naish if i can ...

One more question, does the Naish's boards really weight 9 and 10 kgs ?? that's really really light , in that case , there are the lighter boards i've seen .

Bye ;)

PS: sorry for my language ...

May be you should have a look at the new 11.4 from Naish 30 wide it might be the cruiser your looking for.

Yes..Oliver weighed his HUGE 11'6" Naish and it weighed only 10kg...my 10'6" is also about the same weight.

They are very light boards..but still very strong and stiff.

Don't be put off by the huge size of the 11'6" Naish..I have both and use my 11'6" most of the time now.

It's great to be out in ocean swells or very rough down winding conditions and still be very stable...Stable = Fun..

I would love a 10 6" and will be getting a smaller board soon. I love my 11 6" and in no way do i think it is a pig, i am a pretty solid guy 100kgs , 6ft tall, but think the thing surfs awesome, i am a pretty competent surfer and have no trouble styling on a 11 6". I just want a smaller board as well to throw around a bit more 11 6" s rock !

Hi everyone. Unfortunately the Naish 10,6 was shipped without the camo deck pad. I'll have It soon, from Maui, where a friend of mine It's involved in the demo Naish 2009 products. Nevertheless I tried it with surfing booties at my feet and I can say this: It's a great board. For my weight (70 Kilos..) It's a decent cruiser too with the single fin set up. Not much stable but overall good for paddling in flat water. I didn't try it in waves yet because I fractured my sternum in a kite accident. A big ciao from Italy.
