I think if you go by race results the yellow board is the faster board but racing is more about the paddler than the board..

I know red is normally faster but the yellow one is narrower and usually the narrower the faster.. That's if you don't fall off..

The trouble with this comparison is that these boards are built for BOP racing where results at the highest level depend largely upon who manages to catch the wave rather than which board is fastest through flat water.

I've paddled the Naish and a proto of the Fanatic on flat water, and without having any timing data to back this up, I would say the Naish has a faster burst speed whereas the Fanatic is easier to maintain top speed.

Do a demo, and see which suits you.

I previously owned a FANTIC 12'6 X 27.

I was planning on getting a 14fter but after paddling the 12"6 it felt so nice i went with that.

Keep an eye on the forums, there are a tonne of demos form all the major brands coming up.

Well, aside from having to factor in variables such as tactics, conditions, fitness and luck, the other point to consider is whether the team riders are really on a production board or whether they have a custom team rider special.

Another 4-6 weeks should answer this question. Containers of boards about to arrive all over the country.

BOP is Battle of the Paddle, which means that it's a race in and out through surf. A board designed for BOP racing will be optimised to be able to catch a wave and also capable of dealing white water and breaking waves on the way out. Flat water race boards don't tend to be so good at these challenges.

Forget about whats fastest , get a board that you feel comfortable on Its the jockey that makes the difference. in my opinion if you are a bigger guy go for a board with a pin tail , you only have to look at the wake generated by square tail boards , expeciaslly when bigger dudes are riding them , no point in dragging your arse
