Looking for a little help deciding....

170 lb / 77 kg 5' 10" rider.
Coming from a Laird 10'. Catches waves like a champ but looking to throw something around little more aggressively.
Surfing in North East FL which can be small to ok....2-4 ft + mostly.

I think I still need good float/wave catching ability because our waves here can be soft.

Any thoughts on helping me choose between Naish 9'3" / Sub Vector 9' 3" / Gerry Lopez 8' 10" or anything else?

Thanks in advance-

Hey there,

Best idea is demo what your looking at!

The Sub vector i believe was built for bigger guys up to about 105kg, best person to talk to about that is Simon from Newcastle Sup he is the Guru on the C4 boards. I am sure C4 have other boards that would also suit.

Naish 9'3 is a great board a mate Matty Mathews is about 90kg and rips on this board. It from what I have seen is more unstable as it has a tighter pulled tail. PM the dogman he is the guru on the 9'3.

Piros and Laceys lane have ridden the Gerrys and by all accounts they too are very fine boards. Drop them a PM they will help no end.

At 77kg you might like to think about:

The PSH 9'3 Ripper less rocker more stable HP board.
Andrew Allen Balmoral Boards is the Guru on the PSH Range

Naish 8'10 Alicat surfs this board like a weapon,

DC 8'10 Session is about 85kgs and says this is very stable and he rips,

LSD 9'2 Steve was killing it on this board and he would be mid 80s too i think, slap me if I got that wrong Steve laughs.

Hope this helps

Phill

hi jeff

always happy to talk up 2 of the 3 boards

as ive had a crack on the 9'3 naish and the 9'3 sub vector but only had a quick look at the gerry 8'10 with a short w@nk rave with the guys that saw it with me at the time

no prizes for guessing which one i liked better but it all depends on your own personal style and taste and the waves you ride most as these 3 boards are totally different in outline, rocker and overall performance style

Hey Jeff

I weigh in at 70 kg and I'm on the PSH 9'2" all arounder. This might be a great board for Florida waves if you can get you hands on one. Its got fairly flat rocker so glides well and really goes in slow waves. You can ride the thing like a mal with nose rides stall turns and the whole deal, but also throw it around shortboard style.

Check Atilla in this vid

Arrgh decisions, decisions

Good luck
Bill

The SV should work fine for what you want. If you were surfing more hollow waves I'd recommend the Naish. The Naish has a much more pronounced rocker than the SV making it easier to take those steep late drops. However the Naish "pushes" more water when paddling, while the SV has a much better glide.

Buy Australian
Both Dale (DC) and Tully (Luguna Bay) have made boards and they have turned out real well.

HI,

I generally ride the 8'10 here on Maui. It works great for waves with more punch, so I would eliminate that size unless you have small surf that has power. I would recommend the Naish 9'3.
It has enough width to get in early give plenty of stability, keep your speed and still rip a turn.
You can also look at the Naish Mana 9'5 that board would be a great choice if you mostly surf smaller waves that are soft.
