Hey guys,
Little advice needed. fairly new to SUP and never needed to fix an epoxy paddle board before. I got about a bit less than a 50 cent piece hole puncture right thru to the foam in the bottom of my 9'5" Naish Mana today. I did not notice it till at the end of the session and think I did it at the start of my session. Carrying it back to the car it felt a bit heavier and when putting the cover back on I noticed the hole.

I have it lying flat, with the hole facing down right now, hoping to drain out the excess water. I think its taken in a bit of water. It was fairly cool and early evening here in Melbourne when I took it out so the board was not hot when going in the water but it was in water about 50 mins after ding puncture. I was in the Yarra river near Hawthorn so I am not sure if its salt water or fresh water or half fresh/salt. Not sure that even matters but I definitely wont be trying to suck any water out with my mouth, yuk!

Never had to fix an epoxy SUP board before but fixed lots of PU surfboards...

1. What is the best way I can get rid of excess water in the board? I don't have special equipment or anything though.

2. Should I fix the board with solar rez epoxy? epoxy putty? or just get some epoxy resin mixed with hardner and fiberglass cloth as I would fix a ding in my PU surfboard only using epoxy resin? (I might be able to get some epoxy resin from a shaper i know who lives down the coast a fair way if thats gonna work best but it would be much easier getting my hands on some epoxy solar rez or epoxy putty if that will do the job ok)

3. To get the nice yellow color back after repair what should I spray paint with? I am guessing automotive 2 pac will work ok?

Cheers in advance for advice

Bummer about that.. Ding tape or a sticker should work to get you back on the water.. and when not paddling peal the ding tape off and leave in a warm dry place to dry out.. This Tuesday is expected to be 30 deg and sunny.. .. so it should dry out then.. I don't think much water would get in.. I'll check it out when I see you next.

Thanks David, shall leave it in the sun but after weighing it just before its about 14 or 15 kg as far as I can tell (the wifes asleep as its 3am so I had to try and see the scales whist holding the board myself). So it look like its sucked alot of water. As far as i know the Mana 9.5 is 10kg. I think Im gonna have to get out the good old vac and apply some duct tape around the hole and keep turning it on and off for 10 seconds at a time (googled the net and someone suggested this on one forum) to get out as much water as possible till I find out what to do. Shall get some ding tape though so i can still hit the water...

Spoke to Josh Dowling this morning. He's an expert in making and fixing composite EPS boards, great guy too. In case anyone else needs the info in the future, he send me this link that explains how to get water out of the core:
