Hi Scotty,

I will know more in about 3 weeks, I am heading over to Maui to see the whole 2009 Naish range at the Naish Importer meeting. All I know is it complies to the 12' class for paddle board racing, and it is designed to be very fast in (real) open ocean paddling. Naish decided not to make a super fast board 16'+ such as the Penitrator, becasue they are too expensive to ship, and transport, and when your in that catagory (open class) most of the very serious paddlers are paddling full carbon, light weight mosters, and it would cost a fortune and not be competitive. But the 12' class is fast enough, and easy for many brands to make very fast boards at a reasonably high tech construction at a decent price. BTW, I do not know the price yet.

I should have more to report on the full 2009 range mid June when I return from Maui. I may post some pics from Maui, as we do some distance paddling each day.

JB...I can't wait to hear more about this new Naish board..Don't forget to take pictures for us when you're in Maui.

I'm guessin' less tail rocker..and maybe a bit less nose rocker..Maybe deeper concaves..and a pointy nose..and maybe also a pintail.

Maybe even a little more narrow than the 11'6" and possibly even a slightly sunken deck...I hope they don't do the foot steering thing.

I'm glad they've chosen to go this way and not follow the new Starboard 'Point' and C4 'Vortice' with their high tech..and high price.

I think we're going to see more and more events like this one...see pic.

when your over in hawaii sus out what sizes of boards they are riding in larger surf

just came in from a late after work sup in 8 foot plus waves the swell up here on the north coast nsw has been building all day

still looked good even with a slight onshore breeze on it

naish 10'6 held in there but in the arvo chop was a little sketchy

nose of the board just wanted to eat up the bumps and lumps

wondering if a pulled in nose like the board that robbie naish is riding on the naish.tv website might help(the board with the pintail) looks the part

still had a ball and got some bomb sets

half ya luck going to hawaii have a good one hanging out with all your fellow naish fat daddies

dogman

ps put a word in to robbie to make a micro grommets sup
my young fella wants a big yellow board like mum and dads boards (10'6 11'6)
he just turned 4 and is keen as
so put the hard word on the man

thanx

From my experience in 5ft plus clean offshore surf on my 11 6" last week i would definately want a more similar plan shape and rocker to my 7 4" pintail gun i surf big waves on, in 8ft surf on my sup. Even though i caught some bombs last week, i feel i would have went even better on an sup with pintail, pulled in nose, nice rolled rails with concave bottom with nice plan shape and rocker, i may even talk to my shaper Maurice Cole about doing me an 10 ft sup purely for solid surf.

I think that naish have the right idea if they bring out a 12 foot ocean board that everyone can afford it makes the racing more about fitness and technique and not how deep your pocket is. I would much rather see 50 guys racing on 12 foot boards that 5 on 16 foot over priced board.

I wish i had one for the race on the 31st

In the 2009 range there will be an 11'6" GUN, like what Robby and the boys use to ride Jaws and the like at well over 10 foot (Hawaiian). All the good big wave riders are riding 10'6" + in big stuff, I believe laird rides his 12' er in the big waves.

As for the gromms, I will see what Rob says, but young Kai Lenny used to ride the Naish Hybrid 6'6" and now rides a bigger version of that same board at 7'6". You can get the 6'6" Hybrid in the same construction as the SUP's, so your gromm will look that same as Mum and Dad. I am not sure if I have some coming in the June container, but if you are interested let me know and I will see what I can do.

hi JB

thanks for the reply

waves looked good early this morning as I drove past it to go to work

look forward to checking out the sup gun sometime soon

the hybrid shape surf board sounds good for the grom

mums new hybrid short board would do for a starter at the moment its 6'3 by 21" by 3"

but down the line in a year or two if he is still into it may want a purpose built slick stick to stroke into a few sly shoreys down the beach with his mates

thanx dogman

hi BROOKO

if it was supper clean the 10'6 would be lovely but with a few bumps and lumps a pimped out gun style sup would be great to cut through them

the 11'6 would be a little bit more of a handfull but do able

Yeah thanks for that dogman, i will need to be pretty carefull as i am a bit over 6ft and 100kg, and the spots i surf do normaly have a bit of chop and a fair bit of water moving around. I will try to master the 11 6" first, i just find it hard to throw around and do cutbacks on, awesome to trim and speed pump on though.

yesterday I went for a sup with one of my mates

he rode the 11"6 naish

nice little waves

I noticed how had it was for him to pull a few turns on the big bitch

it looked so funny as he is a good mal rider

hasn't taken him long to get the hang of it

so good to sup with other crew and laugh till you cry when paddling back out talking about how rad you thought you ripped the last wave

cant wait till he robs a bank to get the funds for a board

till then he has to suck up to my missis for a go of hers

she just gave birth to a gorgous baby girl 3 weeks ago

and she cant wait to get back into surfing again soon

im trying to get in as much as possible as i will be spending alot of time on the beach with the kids while she is surfing and catching up on lost time
