Hi guys,
I've been reading the forum for a while now and really value all your opinions, whether they're too my liking or not ;-)
I'm about 5'10, 75kg. I surf from 6' to 9'6, not great but can hold my own. If the surfs up, I'll be surfing, but if it's too crowded or not to my liking I figure I'd like to get on a SUP, maybe just for exercise or for an outer sandbar or point you generally wouldn't surf. I have used my brothers 10'6" x 28.5" PSH allrounder and a mates C4 9'3" Sub-Vector, both felt fine to paddle.
I was all set to buy a Naish Nalu 10'6 a few days ago but when I went to order my local store said they are discontinued and have been replaced by the 10'6.5. I know they are 2" wider and obviously .5" longer. Other than stability would there be any performance gain from this? What about performance loss, ie surfing? And now there is the option of Wood Sandwich construction or AST, is it purely cosmetic? I know the wood comes with a bag, but I could probably get a better Flying Objects bag for about $200.
I have since had a look a few other brands and seen that the PSH allrounder wide is quite similar, any advantage? Also seen the Starboard 10' noserider and SB 9'8" Element, any thoughts on those?
Anyway, I think that's enough for now. Thank you already for reading and thoughts! I appreciate any advice I can get.
Cheers

look dont get me wrong, i love naish boards, ive got 2 manas and theyre great, But and its a big but, you only weigh 75kg and you are an already experienced surfer and youve already been out on narrower surfing sups. I really thing the 10.5 is way too big for a surfing only sup at your size. Im 106 kg and i surf either the 9.2 0r 9.6 fanatic allwaves. I surfed the mana for 2 years. There is a marked difference in the surfability of these boards. Thee 9.2 alllwave is almost as much fun as my shortboards. at your weight and experience, and if youre going to surf beach breaks i would be looking at the 8.10 allwave or the naish hokua, maybe the starboard 8.10 widepoint, the cabrihna proseries or a myriad of other shorter surf only boards. I may sound like a phillistine on this forum, but i see no merit in paddling for paddlings sake, ive been a surfer for over 30 years and i use my sups to catch waves. If you want to leisurely paddle around the bay etc, then the 10.5 will do that and surf very well too. but if im reading you right and you really want a surf dedicated board go smaller. if i was 75 kg i would be surfing a sub 8 foot board. Naish make a little 7.9 that is super loose and great fun to surf. May be a bridge too far initially, but thats what id be aiming towards.
good luck.

Thanks DJ and sameh.
Sorry, I didn't make myself too clear. The board would mainly be for paddling, but also for a bit of surfing at outer sandbars or points
Thanks again guys
