Hi guys,

I'm kind of new SUPing but I'm hooked and stoked now so I decided that i want to buy a board but don't know which one. I live in Florida and we don't have big surf here (at least in the west side in the gulf of Mexico) I've demo only a couple of boards and the one that i like was the big Timpone Kalama 11'6 the guys at the store want $1,200 which i think is a reasonable price. However, I just found out that there is a smaller version 10'6. I weight 90kg i'm now all confuse to which one to buy now.

I haven't demo the 10'6 yet since the store does not have one.

Any advise?

Thanks!

Hi WM74.. Welcome to the Breeze and I'm about your weight and I've paddled both 11'6" and 10'6" Kalama's.

Here's a post with more info about the new small Kalama.. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=41295

If I was to choose between the two I'd defiantly choose the bigger 11'6"..Although the smaller 10'6" floated me and was pretty stable I'd only buy the smaller board if I was lighter or just into the waves.

The bigger board will be more fun IMO and you will be able to do down winders on it and that's something that you will struggle with on the smaller board.

Good luck with it and let us know how you go.. If you do end up buying a Kalama try and get a new one with the hand hole to help with carrying it.

Thanks David, I read the review on the small Kalama and I wish i could demo one. I did enjoy a lot the big Kalama in flat water. The one that the shop is selling does not have the hand hole, which like you said could be very handy. I appreciate your response.

Take care
