Where is Tully going to be based in Sydney? I am north of Sydney and am trying to figure out if I can make it in one day.

Steve, Tull is driving the van down and has a bunch of other surfing sups with him as well. Give him a call he's a good fella, he may meet you on the way through....cheers, Stuey

Hey Scotty, I will have all my toys at MAMBO including my 16' Penetrator and some PSH boards.

These boards are always available to demo in Sydney - just drop us a line.

Brilliant Andrew, the new 14' that Tully has with him looks like a baby brother to your 16' but with a couple of new inovations, he also has that finer ladies model as well. You'll have a ball........cheers, Stuey

Thanks Andrew,
I am keen to have a paddle on a penetrator to get an idea about the width and how tippy they are. I am 90kg. I am doing regular downwinders here in wind about 12 to 22 knot sea breezes on a 11'6 naish and normally don't fall cos these boards are abot 29 inches wide. Are you taking a 9'3" PSH ripper? See you at the mambo.
Regards,
Scott

I am a bit of a feather weight compaired to you but I have been on all of the penetrators to date and if you can't stay on one of these something is wrong with your balance.

I think Stuey would be the best to explain the theory of the rails of this board. With most down winds up here you either need to punch out into it or side onto it for a couple of Kms first, then you can turn to paddle down wind - This board handles all chop wave conditions. We did the Seaway to Seaway on a moulded carbon specific down wind board and I had trouble stay on the thing for a number of reasons - I think if I were on a Pene I would have felt more stable. IMO

Thats good news. I assumed because of the displacement hull that they were difficult to ride. Glad to hear, thanks.

DJ,
Blows out your theory.

Maybe.. ..I'll believe it when I see it (paddle it)..

I can't help but think it will be like standing on a log (when stopped)..

BTW... What was my threory??

Simple solution D.J. Ask Andrew for a paddle of his 16' at the Mambo, I'm sure he'll oblige. Like I've always maintained, the Penetrator when in the bolt upright position IS a touch more tippy than a flat bottom but the further over it goes the more it resists as the volume in the upper rails starts to take effect, right when you need it. This opposed to the flat bottom design which is at it's most stable when in the upright position with stability dropping off dramatically the further you tip it over, just what you don't want. Think about it............

DJ,
When I said I changed my mind about the glide because I think in 12 months it will feel too slow and be looking for something faster or something like that. You said that you thought a penetrator would be too tippy and only good for downwind and the glide would be better for alround cruising. I like the idea of covering more distance and actually having more chance to pick up some waves on the way. i.e ocean swells or chops.

I'm sure you're right Stuey..and Scotty I can't wait to try the Pene myself..

I keep thinking about the first time I tried to paddle a racing surf ski and couldn't even sit on the thing in calm water because it was so tippy and I was so wobbly..

Now I'm thinking I might need two flat water boards.. A glide or Vortice..and a full on speed machine like the Penetrator or F18.

Jeez I hope I win the lottery soon..

If you got a penetrator, why would you need a glide? It would be like if you own a porsche and a mazda. When are drive the mazda?

I like to paddle around the marina's talking to the guys on their boats and it gets tight and twist weaving through the boats.

I like to paddle the river and it also gets tight and twisty at times and I'm not sure I could maneuver such a long board though some of the tight stuff.

I like to paddle along the cliffs with the waves splashing up against the rocks and it gets a bit washing-machine like and I'm after as much stability as I can get (30")

I want to paddle with friends without our boards seeming like chalk and cheese..(It would be like riding a motorcycle made for the Bonneville salt flats along side a normal street bike).

Am I crapping on?.. ..I know all this type of paddling could be done on my standard 11'6" Naish but I am also after a little extra glide when doing down winders.

I guess to be honest I think the Naish Glide will look cool..I guess we'll soon see.. (in about 14 more sleeps)..

Fair enough DJ. Maybe it could replace your 11'6" anyways.

That's my plan... My 11'4" and a 12' Glide.....and maybe a Pene one day for racing and serious down winders if I could afford one..
