Would it be possibl eto sneak a ride this long weekend

Hi Gooch,

Unfortunately we won't be around this weekend to hold a demo, and the weather next week is looking pretty average for SUPing at this stage. Keep an eye on Seabreeze though 'cause we will hold a couple pretty soon.

Early morning before work could be the go...

Early morning sounds good. Very interested to try out the 14'8.

Obviously "The Pin" will arrive in June, I wonder how it compares to the Naish Glide?

Have you tried this board Auswind?

Perhaps DJ may have?

No.. Not me.. I've not even heard of the Pin untill just the other day.

I keep asking at my local Starboard dealer for the new Starboard catalog and they still don't have any of them.

btw.. three of us did a great down-winder today.. and the Glide was really gliding.. and I'm geting better and better at catching runners on it.

I only fell off twice..

Looking at the pics it looks like the 'Pin' is a flat water (only) board.

It looks fast.

Hi Mac

Starboard would arguably be the biggest Sail board manufacturer in the world. Their design and technology is always cutting edge and they produce a very solid, reliable product.
I've often wondered why Starboard products don't get discussed that much on this forum. Maybe the East coast is more Naish based?

Surely does, I got an 8'5 pocket rocket last weekend, I was hangin round with scotty mac @ robe SA. We did the swap, the scotty mac 9'4 quad does surf sweet but doesn't compare to the 8'5, it's an awesome board, very stable and for it's size and is better than any sup i've ridden on a wave, I wouldnt be surprised if we see a scotty mac custom with similar dimensions to the starboard 8'5 on the water very soon.....

Greenroom could nastily be termed a Starboard pimp. He likes them, I have disagreed with him in the past and am yet to be convinced.
Starboard make good sups from a longboard point of view. Their 08 smaller sups are average in decent waves. I own the 08 9 8 and it has very little rocker and a seriously wide tail. Great for what my wife wants it for which is flat water and a kids play thing. Good, no great deck grip, handle and strong construction.
09 range looks better surf wise hope to demo the new 9 8 soon.
They give great service and backup in WA thru Airborne/Auswind or whatever they are.
Greenroom is right though the new lineup is impressive on paper. Only just realised how many they are making now.

Yep I like them. I like the boards that they make
For windsurfing I have the 76L and 86L Fish and the 70L Evo
I ride the 11'2 SUP and I recently got married to it
Ive also riden the 9'0, 9'8 x 28.5, 9'8 x 30, 10'5 x 30, 12'0 and 12'6.
The two that stand out to me would be the 9'8 x 28.5 and the 10'5 x 30.
Both boards are super groovy

Hey greenroom, have you tried the new 8'5? This is the board for waves, it's as stable as my old naish 9'6 but when it comes to waves it out performs IMO

Starboard Subs are available at Greenline Surf in Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast. Their range and quality is amazing and they really do offer a board for every paddler and all conditions. I haven't ridden the S/B in shorter lengths yet but their 11'2 is by far the best 11+ board that I have ever paddled/surfed (hands down). I am so impressed with the boards that i am purchasing the new S/B 10.5 x 30 this week although it was a tough decision between it and the new 9'10 x 30. If you are on the Goldy - check them out and all the other new toys at Greenline Surf (no - I don't work for greenline and don't get a commission from them).

Howdy All,
Yes Casso, its better than my board I shaped but its mainly the length thats the difference. You cannot compare an 8'5" with a 9'4" just like comparing a 11'6" to a 10'6". I am proud of my board I shaped, don't get me wrong but I am also unbais enough to say that the starbaord 8'5" better IMO. It's better than the Naish 9'6" and although I have not ridden the naish 9'3" or the PSH 9'3", I suspect, because of the length and the conditions I ride, I would like it better than those boards also.

Credit where credit is due and in my opinion the starboard is a great board. I suggest they have done there homework.

Like I have been saying all along, the shortboard side of SUP is changing quickly and it will be hard for production boards to keep up. A board in the eight foot range is so much better at tight turns than a board in the nine foot range. Go out and borrow 2 mals of equal proportion with a foot difference in length, the difference is massive. The pocket rocket is the latest design and IMO the best so far.

PS. If I was riding the pipe I would DEFINATELY choose the PSH 9'3"............. i live in Adelaide..........

I tried the various Naish offerings and I bought a Starboard 11'2".

The Naish felt very blimpy with very thick rails and a high centre of gravity. This seems to apply to all the Naish line including the 9'6" and the Glide. (I'm looking forward to trying out the Pin. It will be interesting if it displays a similar blimpy feeling to the Glide.)

(BTW. I'm not bashing the Naish boards. I'd quite happily own one if I didn't prefer the Starboard. It's just a personal preference.)

The downside of the Starboard is that they were quite expensive when I bought mine and I had to buy from a different store to my usual purveyor of fine water sports equipment. The Tufskin is very impact resistant but it gets dirty and scratches very easily. Even carrying it to the beach leaves finger marks on the skin (which is annoying).

I think the Starboard 11'2" is a tad slow for flat water paddling. I can feel when it reaches "terminal velocity" as the bow wave builds up. It's great in the surf and ok for fitness paddling and super stable.

The all-round nicest board I've tried is my mates C4 11'6". It has a nice looking surf shape and it rocks on flat water.
