I dont know it they are inherently faster then say a board a couple of years old, however, they are much more stable. I think that is the secret myself. It allows you to paddle something narrower and that is definitely quicker. On the weekend I was trying out a 24.75 Fanatic 14 footer. Now I would not have even been able to stand on a board that narrow last year (well maybe stand on it but certainly not paddle energetically :))

Anyway what I found was a board that was super stable and quite easy to move around on.

I put that down to a better hull design. So effectively the board is faster cause its narrower and us more generous souls can comfortably run around on it.

There is a world of difference between these two boards. The shape been the main factor. Because of the new shape the 27" wide board is still fast but extremely stable.

After paddling these D/W it gives you a whole new appreciation for the sport. And makes you want to do more. Basically the board almost does the work for you as before it was hard yakka...

I actually prefer the 27" wide board in the 14' class in the ocean.

i agree.. new hull design miles in front... probably only the ACE has not evolved hugely as it worked in 2011. i paddled a 27" at aussies.
