Nice Video DJ, once again!

Can i ask what camera you are using? Im looking at a few gopro's at the moment and just curios of the quality of footage. Yours is quite good, certainly enough for what im after!

I think there is one there.. and thanks..

It's an easy wave to do that on.. but there was a fair bit off off shore breeze that day making us paddle longer than normal to get on.

I remember a few years ago Dave Kalama was using a similar camera mount on the nose of his board and it changes things heaps from having it on the deck of the board.. You can see much more and the fish eye effect of the GoPro is not so noticable..

I'm still using the old GoPro 2.. and set on just 720..

I'm thinking the best way to get good GoPro footage is to try and get good lighting.. Try and have less water drops on the lens.. and also try and have the camera pointed at the horizon to avoid the big distortions.

yeah..good vid dJ.
I like the camera angle and was going to ask how high it came up , off the board. thank for that shot, i really like the custom gopro mount!
I was going to try another gopro fitting to get the camera off the board and away from the water, to avoid splashing the lens, but the camera has a low profile and is rather inconspicuous when it is at board level, which is an advantage.
I guess there would be a bit of resistance in the offshores, how bad was it?
good lighting is the key. Morning surfs always look better here (in SA) than the afternoon surfs. Sunsets in the west. So when we surf, the camera is looking straight into the sun in the arvo.
Must keep the lens wet n clean of blobs other wise the distortions appear, something i forget when caught up in the moment of surfn/supn.
Cheers PB

You've got some great footage there.

I'm looking to make a forward-facing mount to sit just in front of the handle and raise the camera about 18". It won't tape-on cos of the deck pad so I've been playing with the idea of slipping a plate inside the Y handle and bolting the pipe to that.

Any thoughts? you have made a few mounts now! Also, what you using at the end of the pipe to give a flat surface for the GoPro mount?

thanks

I'm not sure why you'd mount it there but my mount would work.. You just need to slip a ring the right size into the handle and turn it 90 deg.. and tie to that.

Where are you.. .. you are welcome to use mine..

Here's a few pics that might explain what that flat surface is…

Thanks for the offer but I'm in the UK, I'll make something and post the results.
Have you already tried a mount in that location, I'm looking for some down-the-line shots, maybe a chest harness would do the same thing?

Yes.. the black legs are plastic.. [used for garden sprinklers systems I think].. Just a hack saw.. drill.. and pop rivet gun is all I needed..
