My mail is, the instant the clubbies are presented with a design that they can no longer claim is too cumbersome, they will be regulated into wearing them in comps and then all other water sports will also lose their exemptions. Let's hope they make it in different lengths and not only different widths because I hate how most kayak type PFD's sit so high up under your armpits making it feel (If you're a bigger guy) like you're wearing a bra rather than a vest..

Good option, not as comfortable as a bumbag style tho IMO

For those contemplating the Downwind Week in WA this summer - The Doctor, Fig2Fig, Triple SSS, King of the Cut and Duel - all 5 events accept Type 1 inflatable PFDs - bumbag or over the shoulder style. This year all PFDs will be scrutinised by the WA Department of Transport at the Doctor - so ensure your canisters are serviced and up to date. (should be serviced every 2 years)

Note that inflatable PFD type 1 should be at the Australian standard of 150N floatation at these events. I am yet to get confirmation as to whether inflatable PFD type 1 from outside Australia will be accepted - but keep that in mind when purchasing a new PFD Type 1 inflatable.

Well said. PFD are created so it keeps you afloat after you knock yourself out. In my eyes the product is flawed right away if you have to inflate it yourself after you are knocked unconscious????

(edit...hang on a sec, how come I can't take my PFD with CO2 canister in my luggage on a flight, yet the aircraft has a couple of hundred PFDs with CO2 canisters on board?)
