Cse, mate you were motoring! Looks good and you're having fun, that's what counts. That nose dive on the footage was a bit of bad luck I think, you feet were in the same spot, back came a tiny bit forward but I reckon a bit of chop got you. The only thing I saw is you don't have your paddle very vertical when paddling hard. Do you have any dramas tracking straight and if so just lean that top hand out a bit more and keep the paddle vertical. Just keep at it as it's an adventure and every session you get a bit better and more comfortable on the board. Cheers

Also, I meant to say that I don't think I have ever nose-dived my 8'8" X32 - the Speed does not have as much rocker and has a square nose - so I have to get used to that.

I find it interesting that you think there isn't enough nose rocker.... mine has super kick in it..... never goes under.

I need to learn to get back further to keep the nose up. I was surfing/SUPing over a reef where there was a sudden change in depth, so the waves did tend to get very steep. The Naish has more rocker, and a pointed nose, and when surfing the same spot I haven't nose dived.

OK, nothing exciting, but 27 km/h on the first wave in the vid is my highest speed ever (recorded on the ripcurl gps watch).

It was a bonus surf. Almost no wind and good swell - and by myself for an hour. Then the wind started up from the west, and nine SUPers paddled in. The surf changed, but it was still good.

Still trying to get the rhythm of the Speeed (7'10 x 29" 130 ltr - 6'3" 90 kg).

Would love to receive constructive critique. Have not dialed it in yet. Sometimes I try so hard to get my weight back that I lose balance... And I nose dived a few times...

Is that correct CSE, 7'10 x 29" - 130 ltr? That volume doesn't sound right for those dimensions. The 8'10 is 130L.

Sorry - yes you are correct - typo on my behalf. I have the 8'10" Speeed.

(And yesterday I had a different board out in similar waves and could only get it to go 22 km/hr - I could feel the difference.)

Hey cSe - looks like you doing A-for-OK mate & dont worry - all of these more specialised boards require a bit of dialling in. I'll 2nd STC that if anything, I think the wafer thin nose actually helps prevent nose dives but then again, I haven't tested mine in really hollow conditions yet. My main challenge is finding the sweet spot to get my weight back when I need to wash-off speed to make a sharp turn but all-in-all, it's such a fun board & I feel like I've barely scratched the surface in terms of it's true potential

I have to decide whether to take the Speed or the Minion on my Maldives trip... (I am most comfortable on the 8'8" X32 so that will make the trip). Maybe I should take all three!

At the risk of stating the obvious, your 7'10 Minion will definitely act more like a short board vs your other 2 boards & you're dead right taking the board you're most comfy on but I guess it all depends on what kind of conditions you're expecting because if it's quick close-outs, I'd choose the Speeed every day of the week!

Definitely a first-world problem

I visited the Maldives 3 years ago, but I can't really remember what the waves were like. We were on a boat (and are again this time) so we visited quite a few breaks in the central/south atolls, and my recollection was that we had a mix of waves and conditions. Some were a bit fat and small, some were steeper and you had to get on your bike to make the section. But it will depend on the swell and wind and where we are located... It is often windy at this time of year, but I don't remember it getting over 10-15 knots.

Seems to me that the Speeed will be great when I need the speed (I am pretty clever to figure that out ), but I love the maneuverability of the X32. And right now, I am more confident in a late/steep drop on my X32. The Minion is the lovechild of both boards. I would love to have it to push myself and no doubt do more on the wave than I could on the other two.
