Hi,

Im about 6 months in and started surfing Currumbin...Ive done my apprenticeship in the small waves at Tullebadgerra and in the flat creeks...At the moment i am finding these southerly's tough as I am getting a lot of wind resistance as I am taking off. Im pretty broad so Im there is a lot of surface area pushing against the wind. So Im finding it really deflating not getting onto waves.
Does Currumbin always blow like this? Or does the wind lighten? Id imagine the wind coming from the other direction help, does that happen?
Anywhere else around that is good for someone at entry level? I haven't seen a wave at Tullebudgerra since they dredged.
Appreciate any advice.
Cheers,

I agree...No better place to live.

ck mouth is always going to be a bit rough till you hit the first bank. just the strong wind at the moment and left over swell from the big seas mostly

first up ,it's best to get used to surfing sup on a beach break as the wave breaks straight towards the beach thus ur taking off going straight, surfing the points ur taking of on an angle which is harder & its best u get used to riding waves propley before u hit the points, people start trying to surf sups on the points because u can easily get out & when ur not experanced & u paddle out on the points & are not good at surfing a sup yet u can end up in peoples way & danger for u aswell as others...... we as sup riders are getting a bad name from exactly what im talking about ,people who shouldn't be trying to surf perfect hollow waves before they learn to ride/control ur sup ,i'm not having a go at u but u should really do ur time on beach breaks before hitting the points................the thing is with a sup ,ur boards 9ft+ then ur legrope streatches another 8-12ft , combine u've got 15-20ft of when u fall off 12+kgs missile that can hit anyone within 15ft+ radius..... very, very dangerous to all...........as i said this is not directed at u it just should be a rule for everyone learning how to ride a sup!

Shaper,
Good point mate...Im very conscious of this...I always try and find my own spot away from the crowds...Even if it is a bit of shore break at the mouth...or on less rough days further right of the alley over Palm beach way

currumbin can be a windy beast like the last few days or a glassy paradise. your pretty lucky to get the latter at this time of year. if the wind is bothering you your board may be a little on the small side? i wouldn't get too frustrated, it was hard work for everybody out there this morning. weird swell direction, funky tide and ssw winds make life difficult.

Talle is where my hearts at. Beachies or creek mouth and work is right there which makes it easier. I just don't get why people want to surf crowded places like the alley and the rest. I'd stay at Talle mate. Pete might see you out there in the morning if I can get the kids to daycare early enough.

Heard of a local Mal rider getting the sh-ts with sup's paddling for waves and falling off today at the Alley so he took the no rules approach and dropped in on anyone riding a sup

Obviously the legend hasn't been hit on the back of the head by a "falling-off-kook's" sup...yet!

So in other words he was doing what Mals have always done at the Alley and dropped in on everyone regardless. Hahahah.

I understand the sentiment though, I rode my SUP out there the day the swell dropped and was done by 6:30am. A combination of a single bank with shortboarders, Mals and SUP fighting for the same waves, Christmas crowds and It was a ****fight, koo-aks on any craft wasting waves when you have waited for 20 minutes drive you nuts.

Hey Mac, how come we never see you down at the alley mate?

Is a good crew on a normal day, wouldn't recommend during the silly season tho! Seriously can't be any busier than LM.

Promise I won't drop in on ya, whether I'm on a sup, lb, or sb!

The Alley no thanks as I said before its the best sup wave for miles.

The story I was told today is this local has had enough of his local 20 plus years been over run by sup's,now this is his problem not mine.
