Hi, can anyone help me?
I'm new to SUP, and want to have it as an alternative to windsurfing in winter and to increase my fitness.
I am 59 years old, 75kg, and have no previous experience board-surfing but have windsurfed for several years.
Does anyone have any advice re second hand starter boards, and suitable locations?
I am looking for a surfing SUP board to use between say Caloundra and Coolangatta, as I am based in Brisbane.
Thanks!

Hi Bob and welcome. Look in the Seabreeze SUP For Sale section there are heaps of boards in there.
The type of board you buy can vary depending on what you want to do. I suggest you read through the old Forum pages and get familar with what others have asked and how they have beem answered. Also talk to other SUPpers about their gear, most shops are also happy to help and even offer demo boards.
If I was starting out I would look at something around 11' or 11'6" and 29 or so inches wide. There are lots to choose from and most of the name brands are great. good luck and have fun.

Best advice is to find a GOOD local SUP retailer, these guys will WANT to give you the best advice and get you into the sport as comfortably as possible. They are happy to chat and let you look at and check out as many boards as you want to, they often have cheaper 2nd hand gear to offer as well and most also offer demo days or will happily lend you a board for a day or 2.

Not sure where you are exactly but there are plenty of good retailers between the Sunny Coast and Gold Coast. Good luck with it.

Bob, have you considered hiring a few boards first?
This way you will at least have a base idea of the style of board you will be looking at.
We are always here to help if you want to drop in to view some boards or for some advice.
