Chris Bertish paddled 130km in 12hours straight downwind from Kommetjie - Langebaan along the West Coast of South Africa (off Cape Town) in a honking South Easter which was clocking close to 40knots in and around Cape Town harbour.

It was a Guiness Book of Records attempt and hopefully he will get it ratified.

Chris just got off the water about an hour ago and all we know for now is that he managed to do the distance in 12 hours which is an ave speed of just under 11km/h or a pace around 5min30secs per km.

Well done Chris, you are an inspiration with your mad endeavours!!!!

Super effort. Well that sets a standard for anyone else crazy enough to give it a go. The question is, should the record be for the time taken to paddle 130km (which is a fairly random distance) or should it be for the most distance travelled in a 12 hour period?

I'm trying to get the details from Chris but I think it was the 12 hour record - meaning distance covered in 12 hours - he was aiming for 120km but he cracked that in under 11 hours so he ended up with 130km's making it a just a little tougher for the next guy....

That might be hard... he's probably in a coma - that's what my body would do
