After giving a SUP a try in Noosa recently and being an old Knee Boarder I thought this was way to much fun to not do now that I am pushing 55 and it's easier to stand up on!!!!
I went for a trial at The Zu in St Kilda with not really expecting to buy as I had my eye on a Cocomat board 10'2 and just wanted to try out some others. I rode my bike in went for a paddle, rode home got the car and before you knew it I was loading this 2016 Naish 10" onto the roof
She looks great and being 32" wide is so stable and I can't wait to give it a try this long weekend, after the Grand Final!!

That's a nice looking board. You will no doubt enjoy it greatly. It is extremely addictive. Don't bother waiting until after the GF, go on Friday public hol, and the again between Nth Melb breakfast and the grannie.

Good idea I think Friday will be a great day to SUP and I can fit in a session before the game starts too! I was told thatI would not want a SUP because it's always nicer in Noosa by obviously he has never ridden a SUP and has no idea how much fun it is?

Ha.. The SupVic family.. Seabreeze family.. or the Naish family..

btw those new 10' Mana's are 33" wide.. Very stable.. Paddle flat water great.. and surf really good.. I know a few people with them and they love them.

I had a great paddle on my 9'5" Mana yesterday in glassy little waves..

Hi David

I have a leg rope already which will do for flat water, if I head for the surf I will get a proper SUP leggy.
Friday will be in the bay letting my step kids and daughter try it out occasionally plus www have a canoe for them to use.

I know it's not great news to most cos there are no waves and I am just learning, HOWEVER I broke in my SUP yesterday at Mt Martha beach on a no wind perfect 25 degree day with crystal clear water a few fish and started to learn a few things about riding a sup.
My balance was a bit off as I am fighting a bug at the moment but I kept going on and off for about 3.5 hrs of easy paddling. Interesting to learn how boat wash affects the board and how to balance etc and I learnt that back paddling is the only way to change direction in a hurry when you are trying to circle to get the hat that came of after you fall in and you did not realise!
All in all I had a lot of fun and reinforced why I bought the SUP in the first place, it was so peaceful out there and once I get use to the swell in Pt Phillip bay and how it works differently to other areas I will venture further and start doing some more adventuring and maybe see some bigger wildlife. i look forward to taking it down to the Island at some stage and exploring a few areas there out the back of the breaks and once I can do that comfortably start catching a few smaller waves and mixing it up a bit!
oh I found out today I had the pale around the wrong way so I will be interested to see if I hold it with the tip pointing to the front of the board if it makes a difference to my acceleration?

Are you serious OldDave, you paddled using the wrong side of the blade.

What happened to the retailers giving some pointers? I'm sure the good ones give this at point of sale.

I've noticed a few sneaking into the line up looking all kooky and deadly.
Paddling around in and out, paddling for waves on their knees in sucky conditions
only to go A over T and killing anybody down the line.

Licence test before you get into a line up with others around, your going to kill somebody.

That's very gracious of you thanks for the words of encouragement

Obviously you were never new at anything.

I have not the patience to bother with a line up, I surfed for many years and I am not interested in hassling anyone for a wave anymore. I hated Surf Ski riders in my day as well as Boogie Boarders and see sups as just as dangerous in a crowded surf line up in most situations, so I will not be killing anyone down the line!

Well done on the new board old Dave ..I had my 10 mana for just over a year ...before a friend pested me ..to sell it to him .dawn I miss it sometimes ..but I now have the naish 9.6 Hokua which does handle the narly reef break I surf ,a bit better....oh ..and a 11' Nalu .
With the rear fin in surf I found it better with the fin up forward about a inch of the front and just paddling around ,up the back is better .Dont go out in to bigger waves 5-6 foot ,as having 192 litres it does tend to try and pull ya leg off with the leg rope .
enjoy ..it's a great sport . Mine was just the GT not the flash new wood deck like yours ..wow.

Hi Old Dave from where I sit you should be young Dave My better half and I just got home from a surf on our Mana's. Mines a 10 footer like yours, we were surfing little soft knee to waist high waves, we had a ball. They are great boards to learn sup surfing on. I had years of surfing in the past like you so understand the rules in the line up, you always seem to be able to find a sup friendly peak if you paddle away from the pack. We also enjoy going for a cruise on the harbour when the surf is crap or too big for Anne. You won't regret buying the mana, they may not be as manoeuvrable as other boards but they are real stable out the back and super easy to catch waves on and relatively loose for their size. Great board for bigger folk, I'm currently 104 kg. enjoy!

Yeah I put old Dave as a bit of a joke but when I saw the ages of a few people I thought oh well not really accurate! My partner is also giving it a go but she will never go near the waves it's not her thing but she hoped on yesterday and was very stable, mind you she is only 50kg.
Love the board though and it looks so good and expect to be enjoying it the same way you and Anne do for a lot of this summer coming!
