Hi All,

I am a newbie to the sport with my first lesson last weekend and to be honest I'm hooked.

I have put in the order for a Fanatic 10'6 Fly HRS which I am hoping to pick up this weekend and I am sure by Monday I will have a variety of sore muscles but I'm looking forward to it.

Based in Brisbane so look forward to meeting a few people and getting out on the water soon.

See you around the boards.

I bought the same board 5 weeks ago, realy happy with the board. Great on the flat water, handles the surf ok but I'm still learning and the best excerise for a bad back.
good luck

Hey BG, welcome to the Breeze. Do a few trips to the Goldy, we're very friendly down here and plenty of Newbies. Lots of waterways to explore, and when you have mastered that, then try riding some waves or Downwind riding. Enjoy the sport.

Thanks SurfyDad.

Was down on the Broadwater this morning, a bit sore after a couple of hours on the board but should be all good in about a week! :-)

Where do most of you guys hang out? Currumbin?

Afraid so. Gets crowded but a beautiful spot for creek activities and surfing out the front. In the Broady I like to get around the Wave Break Island. Plenty of sea life to see when it is clear. Enjoy.

Congrats newbie.

You'll love every minute of it, even when you fall off.

I have had a Fanatic Fly 10' since Xmas and love it. Yet to do any good in the waves as my experience is limited, but great to paddle just on flat water. My first venture into waves had me laughing so much from falling in I had to stop and have a rest. A great time but looking forward to improving.

Good luck.

Hi Boardgirl,
There is a few of us brisbane based paddlers who get out on the river in various spots.
I dunno if you would want to learn in the Brissy river( i didn't), but as soon as you are confident, the river is ok.
Just make sure you always go up current first.

Flaker,

Thanks for your response. Do you just post on here where and when you are going to go for a paddle?

The River doesn't worry me, water is water.

Cheers

I've got the same board (the Fly 10'6"). Just curious to know how many people run it as a thruster or just a single fin? I tend to do most of my paddling on flat water so I'm guessing having the thrusters is just creating drag....

Mine was set up as a thruster in the shop. Will see how it goes before I start taking the fins out and moving them around.

Have you seen the episode of the Simpsons where the fish have 3 eyes? This is what happens if you fall off in the Brisbane river.

lol....i do recall that big 3 eye cat fish in that episode.

I have been in worse water in my lifetime. Once it cleans up a bit from the Wivenhoe release it should be a bit better.
