So.... I've been bodyboarding for eons and as a mid life crisis challenge I thought I'd try something standing up ie: surfing. Was looking at mini mals but then thought why not a SUP!? So I've gone out and got myself an 11' Woody (with paddle and cover)

ridethetide.com.au/woody/

Grateful for thoughts on :

Leash - Looking at getting the Balin SUP Monster Coil Knee Leash - www.supgearonline.com/products/balin-coil-leash-knee-sup-monster.html .. yeah?

Roofracks - These would help! Have an ix35 with rails (and sunroof), will probably get the Whispabar Rail Bar. Won't allow me use sunroof whilst on, but will take it off between coast trips. http://www.whispbar.com.au/visualiser/132907214097

Ties downs - Any ol ones like from Bunnings will do?

What else do I need to think about except from how to stand up?

You can get raised roof racks to use with sunroof - whispbar do have some (the flush bar if it will fix to your rails -if not there are some in other brands) - I use something similar on my car but not sure the brand as it was factory fitted (VW) www.whispbar.com.au/products/category/1/Roof-Racks

As for straps, whatever you get, just be sure not to over tighten - this will damage your board. I initially used the stretch occy straps and this put creases in the board when I stretched them too tight. Also, if you have a raised rail over tightening can crush it

Can't go past kanulock or SPT lockable tie downs. That way board can't be stolen when left in racks anywhere. Best invention ever everyone has them well worth the 60-80 bucks
They are far superior than your average bunnings tie down strap.

Agree 100% on Kanulocks. Cheap price for peace of mind. Also get some rack pads to go between your racks and board - stops your board creasing.

+1 on the Kanulocks... on my second pair as the first ones died (6 years hard work so I'm not complaining).

On the other hand, I pull them pretty tight and haven't creased a board yet so not sure what the fuss is about

Hmmm. raised roofracks aren't as sexy though! I think I can deal with not opening sunroof on occasions when roofracks needed... I think..
