Check out the new 'No SUP sign' that's just been spotted in the US.

Let's hope we never see them down under.

It does say "launch and beach". I think there is a court case going on in the US at the moment or at least recently as the SUP guy launched from the designated area and paddled to the surf and then returned through the right area only to be fined. Not sure how the case went but I'm sure they will be re-wording the signs.

Sign does say to stay south of the "OK" sign so it does prohibit where you can head to....

I like how if your in the right area the two signs say "OK"
But if your out of the designated area it says "KO"
Could this be the penalty you expect???

That sign relates to all paddle craft and not just SUP!

At crowded beaches especially family focused ones there may well need to be restrictions for safety sake.

There are beaches now that have informal arrangements that do exactly what the signs suggests but are self regulated.

I know of at least 2 beaches in Vicco that have been suggested as NO SUP areas and we only have a small % of the craft they have in the states or up north in Aus.

The volume of surfcraft on some beaches up north is mind boggling compared to what we see down south and the attitude in the water is also very different.

If people work together there wont need to be any signs.

Hey Mel,

The major problems happen when communication stops. I saw 2 guys screaming at each other on a local beach about 3 weeks ago. They were both saying the same thing but wouldnt stop to listen to each other.

It was laughable from the outside.

Seek first to understand then to be understood.

Just a quick question about these red thumbs.

I thought this was an interesting sign and went to the trouble to post a pic for others here to see it.

Why the red thumbs?.. Was it the words that I used?.. or was it because it was me that posted it?.. It almost seems like a personal attack when you can't see a reason.

I've never clicked on a red or green thumb the whole time that I've been here and usually don't care but I can see why there are sometimes red thumbs even if I often don't agree.

Personally I really don't care but I think red thumbing simple informative and interesting posts like this will only stop others posting things no matter how much they think we might like to see it.

It's also very obvious that some people get red thumbed no matter what they post or say.. It seems like a very cowardly way to stick the boot in.. IMO

Fess up you sooks/closest wankers , who are you ? hey Laurie how about you post the names of the serial red thumbers ?

Every time I see a red thumb I hit green to knock it out , I just think the thumbs are a complete waste of time.

I see a single green thumb on your post - I gave you that.

Signs are a necessary eyesore in a nanny state. That's why we pay council rates - to pay for councils to errect more signs so they have justification to fine you for new by-laws they invent.

I'd assume the original red thumbs were people protesting the nature of that sign in the photo. And the red thumb for Phill is... well... just because it was Phill. Everyone knows he has a secret admirer. Remember when you had a crush on a girl in primary school and you pulled her hair because you didn't know what else to do? Red thumbs are the same, especially given that Phill doesn't have much hair to pull.

the seabreeze sup forum has been pretty boring of late and i put it down to mindless red thumbing. looks like a lot of people can't be bothered with this tit for tat childish behavior. just about every post looks bland these days. even dw has pulled back

haha !!
You should see all of the council signs down the main street of Avalon NSW. A clever photographer for the Manly Daily lined up a great photo once! About 12+ signs in view.

DJ, as PT said, the thumbs could have been about the sign, rather than the person posting!

Nice technique but with that style he'll need a longer paddle.
