Just heard from the Manly Longboard Club president that there will be no SUP division at the Snowy McAlister event this Year.

As this was one of the very first Comps of any stature to include SUP it is a real shame that it will be dropped after 5 consecutive years. The club is expanding the age divisions and dropping the high performance pro divisions.

Can't blame a Longboard Club for unhitching the SUP cart and focusing on growing their own style of surfing. Longboard style paddles surfing does seem to be a distant memory. I love my ripping, short board style SUP, but it would be healthy to see the emergence of a strong 10'+ longboard class.

I was there, that was the first time I ever saw SUP.I'd never even heard of it before.I still remember thinking WTF are they up to and then making sure I watched some heats.I went home and told some mates and we all had a laugh over a few beers and that was it(for a while)."BUT"that weekend the seed was sown and after a few years germination,a bit of plant food and plenty to drink I sprouted from the salty sands of surfdom to become (SUP guy)at my home beach. And alas just like all super heros my quest for freedom and justice has been distorted by evil do'ers and now I am frowned apon by even the smallest of sea creatures. But I do not dispair in these times of woe as I know there are others out there, like me,who are willing to forge ahead and create a new world order....(is that going to far ?).Anyhow why don't we have our own comp anyway..???.There seems to be enough guys in Sydney to have at least one days full competition. There does'nt have to be millions of dollars worth of prizes as long as the trophys look cool and everyone has fun.

Was great event except I thought last years event was really like they didn't care to much about the sup division and the presso was really bad last year also they didn't even give all the prises out on the night nor mention the sponsors of the event who had donated a new sup .... Seemed that they were pushing away from it then from my impression ? Though not good to see a loss of a event

geez .... if only a few of these American fast food pipelines here in Oz would see some sort of light and put up some coin to sponsor some events (no particular variety or description) .... if even it only just covered up their shame of selling poo to families

Come on Maccas , HJ's (aka Burger King) , KFC , Subway ....yada yada yada lift ya game & put something back to something healthy & good

KFC came to the party as a major sponsor for the 2012 Tassie SUP Winter Classic, the KFC encouragement award was highley regarded by some of the competitors and one of their store managers even turned up and gave it a go, I think he may have even went well in the Bop section.

lets face it , long board comps only see sup as a revinue raiser. Why would they embrace sup , if to many of their throng switch camps , like many have Go it alone , i believe we have the numbers

haha cursing myself for my memory lapse hoping that will set a standard across Oz brother , bit more sponsoring in SUP & LB would be the ducks nuts to get regular comps set up ... not just KFC either

This appears to be a trend.

Why don't we establish one solid stand alone comp in each state that as far as possible we all support. Include BOP, Down Wind Flatwater and Surf 10ft and over and under 10ft. The Surfing NSW titles is a great model to work with.

Maybe that becomes the State Titles in each state and avoids all the existing Bull ****.

Any thoughts?

Yes, just look at what happened to me with a certain Manly lifeguard the day after "big Wednesday" when I paddled out the southern corner to the Bower then the abuse I coped when I got back to the beach and caught a big right north of the northern flag?

So what if I subsequently paid out his Westerly Windina hairdo? It did not give him consent to physically attack me at the contest in front of the crowd and judges after he bombed out first round of the pro long board division.

It is no coincidence that this "legend" then went on to win the logger division, which is now the focus of the event, while both the SUP and pro longboard have been caned? It is not hard to infer that there is more favourtism, popularism and bastardization going on than was revealed in a recent report into the Australian Swim Team. The thing that really pisses me though is I am once again the scapegoat Judas.

Regardless, it is a real pity the blinded organisers could not just keep SUP in the theme of the event by introducing a traditional over ten foot division? Unfortuately, after never having been given any sort of apology and due ongoing abuse I would still not attend. The irony of the situation is that I was so keen on attending the 25th Snowy after last surfing the event in 93? - "The Big Year" - when I placed second in the Old Mal. Back then the vibe, sportsmanship and hospitality was unbeatable!

Nonetheless, the best solution I can see for the SUP community is to walk away and start your own dedicated SUP comp. The Sydney club has the resources and skills, so I am sure the comp would be an absolute success. Being a dedicated SUP comp there would be room for surfing age divisions and specialty events like the over tens. Just do it!

Reckon why sups have been dropped from the Snowy is to make room for the
single fin log division, they have exploded onto the longboard scene attracting
big numbers(biggest division at the Noosa Festival),it's a shot in the arm for longboarding as it is bringing in the young blokes
