Classic check out the 40 sec mark plus check out the end looks like it has brake levers , it must be how you steer it.

“You look cool and feel cool when you’re cruising on the Eclipse,” Jim adds. But don’t just take it from him.

I have a mirage drive kayak and it is great. I saw the whole video of the eclipse on you tube. Looks like great fun. The levers are for steering . Can't wait to try one out.

I wonder what problem they were trying to solve? What is wrong with a paddle? (It wasn't April 1st was it?)

And can you believe they were trying to surf on them!?!

According to the interweb, the handle and drive are removable so it can be paddled like a normal SUP. I know with my kayak when you removed the drive it came with a plug that fitted in to the slot so it could be paddled like a normal kayak. Just made the mistake of showing my wife this.

They do look a bit weird but I wouldn't mind having a go. Don't think I could bring myself to hand over any decent cash for one.

I wonder how they compare speed wise to a board of a similar size. A bit slower I presume.

BTW. I hate those exercise steppers at the gym.....it just feels like a really unnatural action.

Somehow I don't think they will catch on like the mirage drive has done with the yaks, I think the mirage drive is a good application for a fishing yak as it offers hands free operation to stalk your prey and grasp your fishing tools, however when applied to a SUP the user just looks like a tool.

I had a Hobie mirage drive kayak, it was quicker than a conventional kayak and less tiring as you are using bigger muscles, i.e. your legs. It was great for fishing and we still have one at home my wife uses. I won't be rushing out to buy a pedal board - but you never know they might catch on. Interesting to see them in choppy water. Hobie are a very innovative company and have been around for a long time.

Love it or hate it you have to give Kudo's for design innovation. This is the full video really clever how it breaks down.

Yep, Walden make them. There are two guys that use them in Victoria and have multiple batteries. They stay out for 3 hours. Fortunately they are scared of any wave over 2 ft and now probably weigh in at around 120kg+ so have difficulty when standing. They can't turn very them well, but can control speed and admittedly I haven't seen them hit anyone. At the other end of the spectrum, there is a really nice guy in Newcastle ( a Stockton local?) with crippling osteo in his shoulders and a really dodgy back who is actually a very good surfer and uses the board like it should be used, as an assistance. Unfortunately it's seems to be human nature to take a good idea that helps people that need it for health purposes (Newcastle guy), and exploit it for lazy personal gain (Two fat Vicco longboarders). Human nature . Common Sense..... a Myth from the past

These will be huge ....... these would make a great hire business for the broadwater piros. I had the kayak version, they are really fast when you give it some quad generated gas.... I want one !!!!

Well it wouldn't be a paddle board - but this may not be far off

1. make light sup craft out of carbon
2. More effeicient leg drive - like cycle set up linked to variable pitch propellor
3 add foils

biggest challenge is converting power from arms/legs into propulsion

better than cycling on road
