An older noob here.

I SUP mainly on flat water and when there is little or no wind. However this can limit my options.

Can other super`s please share their tips for suping in windy and choppy conditions. By this I also mean paddling into and beam on to the wind.

Dependent on your board type and whether you are talking about racing or surfing.
However I have found moving as far forward as possible on my 2014 Allstar raceboard reduces how much the board gets pushed around from a side/head wind.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I use 10 - 12.5 ft inflatable touring boards.

Thanks for your tip. Do you crouch low? What stance do you use? Also what size paddle do you use (8-9 "). Long strokes or short quick strokes.

A lot of questions.

Squat a little lower, stand a little forward, put the paddle in and pull a little harder, but try to wear less flappy clothing, don't become a giant sail

I watched a good vid someone posted here a few months back called driving the duck.what I took away was how to exit the water with the paddle to avoid drag ....by removing it sideways ....it makes sense when you watch the vid

Strong head wind I try and crouch a little but a 6'1" and 100+kgs it doesn't make much difference, I find short quick strokes best for maintaining momentum (shouldn't be stroking past your feet anyway) and I use an 8" Fanatic Innegra paddle.
