Hi all
After idea where to take the family after Christmas. Feel like driving south and working our way home over two weeks. We have a caravan and like to camp right near the water.

Looking for good surf spots that also have locations for the kids. Aged 9, 7 and 5. The 9 and 7 love surfing and the 5 just learning.
After some good ideas from the boarder to coffs.

Appreciate your thoughts.
Cheers

So many spots , I go to Iluka over Xmas , not crowded and a few different options to choose from. Never had a problem on the SUP either. Also good for some flat water paddling with Dolphins and fun catching the ferry wake. Thought about the trawlers , but im probably not the only thing thinking of following them Love to surf Angourie but as I dont ride a shortboard thats not going to happen

Woody Head - Iluka, Redcliff/Lake Arragon, Sandon River, Wooli - couple of spots round behind shop on the road to Sandon(the town- not the river)
Minnie Waters maybe? Arrawarra caravan park and also Darlington which is great for families but might need booking. Sunset and Woolgoolga caravan park also - nth and sth of headland, Emerald beach but surfers here are pretty good and you should be too - or give them space(breaks all along beach)

Swanie, all the above are good. Also try Evans Head, good camping and good for families. Angourie backbeach is SUP friendly and safe, stay away from the point. Yamba is great but busy at Xmas. Sandon Point is my favourite, great SUP waves on the right swell. Beaches in the National Park at Iluka are fantastic. Minnie Waters is also fantastic. Enjoy!!! ET.

Lennox Head Caravan Park - has flat water in Lake Ainsworth, and great surf, or Evans Head, same again as Lennox, creek and beach.

www.big4.com.au/

Going down to Lennox myself for a week in the next fortnight.

If you would go just south of Coffs, Valla Park at Valla Beach is great too.

Roger says your welcome to stay at his place at Minnie for a week or so.Just drop in any time , welcome basket ,fresh flowers and sheets in the guests wing and Rog in the kitchen baking homemade pies and brewing fresh ground coffee.
All Queenslanders welcome and while we're there grab the Aussie Title again and again and again.

Thanks everyone, keep them coming as wife has just spent the last hour on google earth checking them out.

I hearrd at Minnie, Roger lets you just plug the van into his power and use his bathroom, raid his fridge, drink his beer and eat his pies. Cheaper then Bali.

Lots of fun spots all the way down the coast. Sawtell has a camp site near the water with fun waves. You've also got the benefit of Coffs being 10 minutes up the road. Further down -Scotts Head and Hat head have caravan parks on the water with Scotts having a fun SUP wave. Further south again there are little points everywhere. Mark Warren's book on surfing the east coast can give you a good idea of breaks.

Minnie waters is a great spot , however, there's a guy that sometimes wears a red gaff helmet that can go a little crazy when he sees SUPs in the water.

The only issue with travelling at that time of year is that you won't be able to just rock up at caravan parks as they'll all be pretty much booked out - Roger's place is drop in anytime.

Attitudes like that is why SUPs are so hated. Lennox was SUP friendly but because of so many morons doing the wrong thing and abusing their rights its not SUP friendly anymore. Your are welcome if you do the right thing and stay away from other water users. Dont surf near the boat channel and stay away from the crazy surf mat riders.

I have found it hard to get spots at some locations. Grabbed 5 days at Yamba and a couple at Sandon so far. Figured these would be good to venture out from. Looking at heading further south first and wandering back.

Will have about 5 nights on Goldie at the end as kids have to compete at a comp there. They all want seven nights at the moment on the Goldie so have to wait 2 weeks before booking a sight there as they then take shorter bookings.
