Have been lurking a while and now a question. Tried SUP at Maroochy with Maroochy SUP School in winter and was hooked. I have had a second hand Southpoint Kalama Timpone 11'6" for a few months, mainly paddling in the harbour. Want to try out some surf on the north side for my first few goes (and am not a surfer). Wheres a likely spot with good beginner break for the summer conditions we're having now with afternoon onshore winds? Havent really surfed the SUP before - had a go on a 12" Starboard rental at Nai Harn (teriffic spot if you're ever there - rental from Phuket windsurfing) in Phuket a while ago with reasonable success in 1 footers, but havent really tried out the Southpoint at home here in surf. The Southpoint seems a fair bit twitchier than the Starboard. thanks. wayne.

Try right in the southern corner at Palm Beach or right in the northern corner at Curl Curl. In front of the surf club at Manly is OK assuming they don't have the flags up there. Collaroy is good when you have progressed a little bit but can get crowded.

Yeah... collaroy is prolly the best spot for learning if you dont want to travel too far... just be careful of the crowds...

for sure, when learning there is enough to think about, let alone dealing with crowded line ups.
