When I was learning how to noseride (Which I still suck at) It was always related to me that single fins noseride better. I tried all the so called noseriding fins and it didnt seem to help me. I was told a big single fin is the ticket, so I guess its about experimenting with different set ups and see what works best.

The 9'6WAA is great for nose riding and I am 105ish kg and I only use PC7 thruster set up. Its the rails that are doing the main work on the board.

It has more to do with board position in relation to the wave pocket than fin sizes IMO.

Go to the tom wegener website he has some fantastic info on this subject.

I have also tried a fluid foils pigs ear 8 -9 inch as a single fin in the board and that works really well for me. It has a very broad base for drive but the fin has little or no rake and allows the board to still pivot off the tail easily.

I've used the Starfin winged fin on my 9'8.
It definately allows you to get more nose-riding time.
Unfortunately the pivot point is at the front of the fin so if you hit the bottom you push the rear up through the fin box. Which is why i only use it rarely.
Certainly is different feeling fin.

meanwhile, dean, that video is terrific, and you are one talented rider. but ... are you riding with a single fin? doesn't look like it but i could be wrong. probably, you don't need the help of a big single, given your skills. but, yeah, maybe it's something i should try out. do you have any specific large-size fins in mind that you think would work?

I have surfed the star fin in a mal but not in a SUP and I tried it the other way around like the dogmeister is suggesting. Not sure if that was the right way but that was just the way I put it in. I though it worked well for nose riding as it created a lot of lift and stability.

meanwhile, it's pretty hard to find 11" fins, from what i can tell; about the only one i've turned up is the jimmy lewis 11". looks like it might be more along the lines of what dean is using:

If your standin on the nose it makes little difference that a fin is "pivotal" or not....depth & appropriate area are what helps.
With good speed, Just point the board along a steep section, & slightly up the face...then tippy toe along the center line to the nose.
A board with concave under the nose will help support & stablise. Nose riding high can be a great way of getting through fast breaking sections.

Agreed,but i would recommend you place the fin as far back as poss to start with.As in other similar topics on large fins,the idea is create tension between the fin and the the wave.This creates forward drive and speed and creates nose lift.This priciple will need to be reassessed if your going to incorporate side bites,and their overall size?
