Hey Queenslanders,
My Brother and I are meeting on the Goldy for a couple of days/nights in November.
We are looking for a good place to stay?
Idealy 1. View of ocean
2. Easy stagger to salt water
3. Close to some seedy bars
4. Close to some night life (seedy ok)
5. Balcony
6. Older style OK
7. Not outragously priced
Just 2 brothers catching up and we don't know the area well. Is Surfers the place?

Hey BWDave,

You can get to any pubs/bars/clubs on the Goldy via the bus. As for accomadation it depends on which end of the coast you want to stay. I live down coolangatta way which is close to the airport, plenty of seaside accomadation varying in price, Burleigh is also a great place, both of these areas have great point breaks and some beachies to choose from, pubs and clubs close by so everything you need really. Just check out www.wotif.com

Hope thats a bit of help

If you are there for more than a few days, I'd stay around Coolangatta/Tweed Heads. 1hour nth to surfers 1hr south to byron 1hur east to Mt Warning. And the RSL club there must be the biggest in the world. Surfers is great for a couple of days - but after that it's just t-shirt shops selling the same t-shirts and bad kebabs.

In the past we'd rent an apartment for a week. My favorites are Seascape - huge 80's high rise in Tweed Heads right where the tweed river meets the ocean. Big Balconies and beautiful views. The other is Calypso - low rise in Coolangatta right in the middle of the strip on the beach. But there are plenty of other options. They can be booked through Rainbow Reality

In Surfers, I've only ever stayed at the GCI, which has a fantastic Japanese restaurant on the ground floor.

Really depends on your priorities while up here, if you want to hit pubs and clubs for a few big nights just pick any accommodation close to Cavil Ave and go from there.

If the ocean view and hitting the water is higher on the priority list, and you want some world class point breaks at your doorstep then Cooly area is probably the go. And the Cooly hotel isn't bad for a night out, usually with a few live bands. Oh and Twin Towns services club is down there too, depending on what floats your boat, and how much blue rinse you have going on in the "do".

If you want to be close to the "home" of SUP on the Goldy, the Rocks Resort at Currumbin. Overlooking Currumbin back beach and a very short walk to the Alley. Also not far from the surf club, which is good for a feed and a beer.

the court yard Marriot is pretty reasonable in Surfers , Broadbeach is good too expecially if ya a bit older , seem to get a bit of a more mature crowd , great eateries and the broady hotel is pretty good , Casino close buy .The new name for Coolangatta is Coolanghetto , great during the day but a bit wild at night.Surfers is overated , but if ya havent been before worth a look i guess.

Big Dave take teatrea's advice, Surfers is a dump and turns into WWF at night.
Coolangatta is fantastic during the daylight but I wouldnt walk around at night.
Nice bars and a couple of clubs in Broardbeach only a 20 min cab ride back to Coolangatta

Broadbeach is the go for a good bit of fun. Casino, 400 restaurants, 300 bars, 150 places to choose from for accom. (may not be actual numbers)

This time of year not a bad option either if you want to get some waves.

Coolangatta is about as ugly a place as you can imagine in a North Easter which in November you are pretty certain to get. I live close to there and worked in town for 5 or 6 years. Nightlife wise also it only really happens on the weekends and it's a great place for a fight these days.

I'd go Broady, it's a great night out almost any night and if you want really seedy nightlife Surfers is just up the road and there are 3 or 4 places much seedier than the others if you know what I mean!

My mate stays in units at "Carool" apartments at Rainbow Bay on a regular basis and is paying about $85 per night I think for a 2br apartment. Its a nice place with balcony and only 100mtr to snapper/greenmount/d'bah. If you stay there you are only 5 minute walk to twin towns club and some really nice restaurants/cafes and all the usual takeaway places. The northern end of the coast from broadbeach to surfers is pretty much a sewer but if you like drugs/drunks/traffic/fights/under-age girls and dumpy open beach breaks then definately head up that way. So I reckon somewhere between Burleigh and Coolangatta would be my pick with a preference for the Cooly end.

I live in Broadbeach and would recommend it to anyone coming to the Gold Coast, you'll tend to find cheaper apartments at northern end of Broady where its a bit older, try Ocean Royale apartments in Brittania Ave.

For a seedy bar, the Atrium Bar at Jupiters is pretty good and is affectionately known as the local cougar bar, worth staying for a drink or five.

Surfers is good to visit at night but better to stay elsewhere - Melba's bar is a must...I have yet to have a bad night out in Surfers.

The best place to eat IMHO is Ribs n' Rump at the Marina Mirage but you'll likely need to book first, buying prawns fresh off the boats at the co-op at The Spit is also worthwhile.

It would be best to visit earlier in November rather than later as its Schoolies time and accommodation will likely be booked for then. If you decide to come up during Schoolies stay well away from Surfers!!
