This has F-all to do with water even. But you need to watch this if you haven't seen it, if you have turn up the speakers and hit full screen.

Just found it on Vimeo so better quality than I have seen before.

I have seen this heaps and never get sick of watching it. The skills of Ari Vatanen are awesome, considering this was the late 80's, well before much of the assistance and safety many drivers enjoy today.

Love the section into the sun, one hand on the wheel, the other hand blocking the sun and never lets off.

Assistance and safety like guide rails on the side of 500 feet drops and a sealed road....... hahaha.

Yep, that part in the sun is always my favourite as well.

I must have watched this 1000 times and I am not that into motorsport either but this short film is amazing. Seen it first on Wide World of Sports for those that remember that great program.

Not really sure what this question is asking, the footage is of a Fin. A Kiwi - Rhys Millen is a regular contentder for top spot these days, but the Pikes Peak event has about 15 categories so I would guess a yank is top of the heap most years one way or another.

As far as out right speed/time .......it hs been a while which is ironic since it is their mountain, and how big the auto industry is over there....and considering they pride themselves at being the best at everything.

The Kiwi's always punch well above their weight in most things mechanical/race orientated....

The yanks have not held the overall record for some time. The current holder is Nobuhiro Tajima (the guy in DJ's pic). He beat the previous record set by Rod Millen (Rhys' father - a kiwi) set 13 years before in 1994.

DJ

Here's a vid from this year.

Sorry DJ I know I should have given you the benefit of the doubt but when I saw your name come up as the next poster on a topic about car racing all I could think was "#UCK ME - DON'T TELL ME NAISH HAVE BROUGHT OUT A RACE CAR"..All good though mate - I've calmed down.

I'm not 100% sure but I would say yes as I know the Millens generally build the cars they drive themselves. I remember seeing a piece about Rhys building the Pontiac (Holden Monaro) drift car they were running in the states D1 for a while, these Kiwis know their stuff.

yeah Rhys did alot of the stuff for "Fast and Furios 3, Tokyo Drift" driving and building. Watching the special features was funny as the head mech was all good with the Yank V8 stuff, but didnt seemed to fussed or impressed on the stuff Rhys was doing with the evo's like changing to 2wd and altering the steering geometry to work better at drifting......I think it was that he was butt hurt that he didnt really understand about it more than anything
