Thanks DJ for again a nice vid. Beautiful surroundings. Are you going to downwind your other new Naish Jav 14' 26 LE? Like to hear a comparison. Haven't seen the new Naish boards in Europe yet. Hesitating between the Glide 14' GX and the Jav 14' 26 LE.

Cheers, Hans.

Stu (& all),
I had the misfortune of spotting DJ as he was heading up to st.kilda yesterday for his d/w.
I was on the way back from the dentist, a mouthful of juice, roaring headache and $2,000 lighter.
Then off to the office to feel sorry for myself.

Suffice to say I didn't have as good a day as DJ.

Thankfully the IT nazi's here won't let me watch vids in the office, or else I'd be feeling worse.

(Did have a magnificent paddle with the HMB Hard Core this morning, though)

Looks like a great day out there DJ - nice work with the video again.
Out of interest, what is the water depth along that run? I get the impression it is relatively shallow (say 3m deep) ??

Thanks Hans.. They were beautiful surroundings.. Both of them..

I should have used my LE .. The reason I didn't was because I thought it was only going to be a light wind with no good runners.. More of a downbreezer in only 10-15 knots.. I was actually going to use my new 12'6" Glide at first and last minute saw it was windier than I expected (15-20) and swapped to the 14' Glide and forgot about using the LE.. The X26 is still a little tippy for a bigger guy... But then so is the old 14' Glide.. How heavy are you?

It is shallow.. I'm sure that has something to do with why it's so good.. There would be parts were it's only 3m deep.. I'm guessing most would be 4-6m.. The water is pretty murky now due to recent rain but when it's very clear you can see the bottom for most of the run on a glassy/sunny day.

About 87 kgs by 180cm, I use a 100sq 82' Quickblade Magic All Carbon (looking for a softer Kailoa race paddle). Tippy means: catching waves?

Looking for a fast flatwater board which you can also paddle fast upwind and also can be used in a downwinder so now and then. Most of the time I will do flatwater with strong winds from Beaufort 4. I have started with a Red paddle Race 12 6 inflatable which is already boring me (slow upwind, keeps no speed at all).

Cheers, Hans.

Paddle last couple of mornings out from carrum....even this morning it's crystal clear. Haven't seen it this clear for along time. Even the patto river is clear. Could see the bottom which doesn't happen often. Rain this weekend should murk it up a bit. Paddled about 200m off shore this morning and could still see the bottom....down this way the bay is in awesome condition

Cheers

Ha.. No tippy means tippy.. Wobbly.. Hard to stand on without tipping over..

At your weight you should be fine on the X26.. But in very choppy water the 14' a Glide would be the better choice.. and much, MUCH cheaper..

I think the new Glide GX would be the best choice for you.. You will be amazed how much better it will paddle into the wind than your inflatable board.. and it's an awesome DW board.. Also very fast on flat water.. The LE boards are even faster if fast is the most important thing but they are not only double the price and hard to get but they are pretty fragile because they are soooooo light.

Interesting that you think a Kialoa will be 'softer' .. Not sure what you mean by that...

You're lucky because the bay is often much much cleaner down there..

Gotta love it when it's clear enough to see the bottom..

DJ, word on the street is that the LE26 is more stable than the "standard" 14 Javelin (last years model)....what are your thoughts ? I have the 14 Jav in Carbon, and am interested in the comparison
cheers Nick

The new 14' LEx26 Jav is definitely more stable than the standard 14' Jav.. I had a carbon 14' Jav for years and recently sold it because I found it too tippy in anything but very calm water.. With the new LE Jav you tip a rail and feel secondary stability and the older Jav just wanted to roll over.. Even though they are the same width the back half of the board is very different.. The nose and tail outline are very different.. The wider tail must help also.. I'm not sure it's 100% as quick on glassy water because the LE has nose rocker causing a little bit of sprinklering because the belly of the board is pushing through the water rather than the nose cutting through like the older Jav... Still feels pretty fast..

Thanks for the clear update DJ, appreciated. Hope to find a dealer where I can demo the Glide GX 2014. And looking for a somewhat forgiving/not to stiff Kailoa Racepaddle. If you have any tips, appreciated.

The three main Kialoa race paddles are.. The Toro (lg). The Hulu (med).. and the new Hulu Small .. (btw that's what I'm using in this vid.. but they're not yet available)

I'd recommend the Hulu unless you really like small blades.. and when get the new Hulu Small when they're available.. (Very soon I think).. It's like a race version of their Pipes surf paddle.

Thanks DJ for tipping the new paddles! Found a review here: www.paddlemonster.com/2013/10/30/gear-review-kialoa-hulu-and-hulu-small-paddles/

Looking great. Better for my shoulders to go for a smaller bladesize. Better have a higher paddle frequency with a smaller bladesize.
