It is looking like a cracking day for the Narra Downwinder. Not massive winds but a nice NE which will help get us through the first 5km which is a little tricky.
This is the 8th year of the race and guys do a great job.
This is the perfect warm up for the 20 Beaches. it is just over half the distance at 14.5kms. FYI - 20Bs is on Sat Dec 14.
The start will be from Palm Beach (south end).
SUPs to go 30 minutes prior to skis so make sure you get there early.
WindsurfnSnow have sponsored the SUP race and will have $500 worth of gear as prizes.
Make sure you put enter online to save $10 (I think you have to enter by Thurs midnight).
See website for details: www.oceanseries.com.au

How good is the wind looking for Saturday - frothing!

Here is some further information I just received about the race:

A reminder that the Narrabeen Downwind race is on this Saturday between South Palm Beach and Narrabeen Beach. All details can be found at www.oceanseries.com.au but here is s general run down.

Normal registrations are open until midnight on Thursday
Late Entries are open until 1hr before the race on your phone, laptop, tablet etc.
SUPs will start at 12pm with a briefing 15mins before the start
The rest of the field starts at 12.30pm with a briefing just after the SUPs start

Race direction will be decided closer to the wind to get a pure downwind race.

The Narrabeen Organisers would like to thank :
Wind Surf n Snow ??? main sponsor of the SUPs race
Bennett Paddles ??? race sponsor
Bakers Delight ??? race sponsor

Further updates will be made via the website and our Facebook page but if you need anything further please contact me at this address.

PLEASE NOTE: the course was supposed to start/finish from Station Beach (Pittwater side of Palm beach) but will now start/finish on the Southern Corner of Palm Beach

Kieran, stability or speed? Is the wider board fast enough or would you be better on the thinner board? With the wind up at 15 knots there will be bounce off the cliffs. Maybe the fatter board. But then again there will be runners past Bengally Head and the thinner board would be better. Mmmmmmm? Only a day to think about it buddy.

Ha ha ah ha ah ha ha!! John I've already decided that it's the fanatic for the DW stuff.
Especially that distance. Much more comfortable and less balance work.
Really looking forward to it!! Just gotta lengthen my paddle by an inch or two this evening and it'll be all systems go!!!

Well that was bloody tough being my first SUP race and bugger all training, legs felt like jelly half way through . I watched ski's passing me and remembered my old life as a clubby

Great to meet a few Sup crew and make the trip north

Yep. Tough slog for the first bit then some nice runners to come home.
Just want to say a big thank you to Sam from Windsurfnsnow. He couldn't race (sick) but still managed to provide significant sponsorship for the race. WSS are basically doing a lot of the heavy lifting re sponsorship and promotion of races in Sydney. Much appreciated.
Also, have to highlight the effort of Terrene Black - the only female in the field of about 22.
With 10K done and 5K to do there was a tight pack of 5 (myself, Stuey, Andre, Lee and Terrene). Terrene came storming home on that awesome looking DC to take 2nd overall. Sorry girls - but going to take a mighty effort to knock her off at Aussies!

Fantastic effort from those top 5 paddlers to finish so fast!! Damn Terrene is flying on her new 14' DC NSP.
Always such a friendly group that always offer tips and support to the newer paddlers.
I found the first 5 - 10k very challenging in the side chop with my legs and left butt cramping up nicely. The last 5k were better with the runs lined up.
Every one of these ocean races I learn something new be it something during the race and directly relating to conditions, my technique, my equipment or something to do with pre race preparation, rest, training, nutrition.
Sooooooo much to learn!!!
Big thanks to WSS for the SUP specific prizes.

I totally agree Kissa, Sam and Windsurfnsnow have consistently been solid sponsors and supporters of races in the Sydney area. Huge props to them.. Sam and the team down there are legends....
