Yup and there's also $30,000 prize money up for grabs.

This event is being run by one of Aussie's greatest ocean paddlers and multiple Molokai Champion, Dean Gardner. Deano has been working hard for years getting ocean racing to a professional level in Oz and this event looks like being the biggest yet. It's open to you SUP guy's as well so if you're in WA or traveling that way, sign up, it will be a cracker Downwind if the "Doctor" is in.

I will be there filming the event in Hi Def from a Jet Ski and with GoPro's mounted on craft, so there should be heaps of footage.

Actually that was probably deano that started the thread, but i didn't tell you that.....hahaha

Cheers Rambo

Anyone over here giving this a go?
Still thinking about the 23km event, but I must admit the shorter relay race on the Sunday is looking appealing if anyone wants to make up a team.

Hi Rez
I've decided to give the 23km race a go seeing I got no feedback for the teams race. You should give the 23km race a go. The conditions look favourable for Saturday, and looking at the competitors list theres no females entered yet. As it is theres only two Sups in the field as far as I can tell.
Think of the glory "First female to SUP from Rotto to the mainland"

Well I am REALLY KEEN to do the 23km crossing as its something Ive always wanted to do....but sure as hell didn't want to swim it! The problem is I only have a 10'6 naish and Im not sure if it would be ok?????

Ive been doing a few downwinders from Floreat and the wind swells there aren't a problem for me but Im pretty sure they are a lot bigger out near Rotto!!!!

Anyone have a big board I could borrow? (long shot I know! ha ha).

Hey Jacko! Wish u and angie were coming over to do this with me!

This might be a silly question, but does anyone have any idea how long the race from rotto is likely to take? I can't go in it, but I'd like to come down and see the finish.

Hi akhawk
Theres a briefing on tomorrow night where their going to tell us the start times weather pending. Ive read somewhere on another thread that someone averages 8kmh. So I guess if you allow 2.5 to 3hrs. I'll post our start time tomorrow night.

I spoke to Dean yesterday he expects that SUP's will start at 1.00pm.

Apparently the faster sit down paddlers will take about 1hour 15min, they are expecting that the fastest SUP's will take about 2 hours, I would have thought that is pretty quick, but I haven't seen a down wind race using racing boards.

I would be thinking that guys on non racing SUP could be taking 3 to 4 hours, especially as a southerly is forecast.

Currently 11 Male and 2 Females entered.

Also Dean was saying that entries have to be lodged on the website today.
