For the last 8 days I've been lucky enough to be in remote New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea filming the worlds first SUP Surf Movie "Living the Stoke". Its being produced by Von Piros productions who most here will know on the forum as Piros.
We have had a very very good time. Unfortunately I have had to return to Port Moresby for work but Piros and the guys are still out there filming and in fact I drove them (by speedboat) to an even more remote location called New Hanover island which is in the far North West of NIP and as I left the lagoon they were all attempting to pull into a barelling right hander with mixed results.
When we arrived in Kavieng we were a bit worried as the swell reports hadnt been that optimistic but the surf guide from Nusa Island Retreat where we stayed met us at the airport said they had been getting head high waves that day so we got a little bit optimistic and the following morning were not let down as we scored an epic overhead session at a remote speck of an island about 20 minute boat trip from the resort. We charged that all morning them went back for lunch and in the afternoon the swell died off a bit but our surf guide managed to find us a nice easy right hander perfect for noseriding.
The next seven days continued in that vein as we would average 3 surfs a day and have been quickly using up hard disk space with all the videos and stills (dont worry we have heaps left)
Unfortunately on Day 2 Piros snapped his new DC 8'11 completely in half riding a gnarly left hander that he was repeatedly warned not to surf by the locals. Even with Dale Chapman himself in the group we just didnt have the resources to fix it in that remote location. But its all good as hes now riding the DC 10 we took as a backup board for exactly that reason.
Piros invited me on the trip having only known me through Seabreeze and despite the fact they have all know each other for years I never once felt like an outsider. I shared a bungalow with Al Hunter and Dale Chapman and I gotta say every surf trip needs a Dale Chapman! His enthusiasm for surfing is so overwhelming its infectious and the guy himself is a crack up with a million and one different stories he loves telling and needless to say he knows a thing or two about board design as well. In fact the same goes for all the guys, there was never a dull moment!
Piros stuck a randomn selction of photos on a USB before I left so I could put it up for you. Many more to come!

Taking a dinghy into town to watch the Melbourne Cup at the Kavieng club. I cant remember how we got back but I was dry so presume I didnt have to swim (Was about a km through a lagoon to get there)
