Yep. Have surfed both boards.
Hopefully I'm not the only one though, don't think I am the target market for these boards at 74kg.

Thanks.. How would you answer this?

DJ

"I am 235lbs 57 yrs old I tried the 10'4 in the harbor and thought it was fine. From what I hear the hull paddler is very good too. I surfed for 45 years just learning sup and trying to figure out options so Blane if you see this or any one else does please give me your thoughts, I would prbably 85 % surf 15% just paddling around flatwater etc. Any body have any thoughts ?"

For this fella, I reckon the 10'4 would be a good choice.

If he wanted to do as much flat paddling as surfing, the Hull would be the go (or a longer board). The 10'4 surfs great and is a fun board, so unless he gets too serious in his surfing, it would be a long-term board for sure.
Would obviously be better for him if he could have a go on a Hull to help his decision, but sounds like he doesn't have access.

Hi DJ, As you may know I recently purchased the 10'2" paddler. I have surfed it now twice, once in 3-5 ft bumpy conditions (OG) and second time in 2-3 ft PRK crosshore 30 knots +. I've been paddling flatwater for three years and surfed through that time around 40 times. ( began surfing in 1966) I'm 53, weigh 97 kgs and am 6ft. The Paddler is a great allround board. I'm going to experiment with fin set up but I have been able to pull off some amazing individual maneouvers as yet I have not actually strung a full wave together full of turns etc. I was lucky enough to be surfing with Dean Snow and his son, (now that's what SUP surfing is all about.) But I didn't embarrass myself too much on my backhand and I managed to spend three and half hours in the water. Since the recent demise of my marriage (two weeks) I plan to surf a lot more and I think the Paddler is only limited by my ability and time in the surf. You wouldn't want to be much lighter than me or you should look at the 9' 7". It's as stable as the Queen Mary and turns on a dime. It paddles well in flat water and has a terrific paddle that goes with it. Unfortunately it is quite heavy at 13 kg. I regard myself as a good surfer, just a little out of practice. I think that if you know how to surf you could do anything that you wanted to on the board though not necessarily as quickly as you could on the higher performance boards, rail to rail transition etc. Great board to start on or if you want some stability.

Yeah, spot on Tryfan!

The 10'4 is the most recent shape in the PSH Boardworks range with a fine, pulled in tail - typical of Blane's high performance surfing boards. With a traditional bottom shape it is designed to progress your surfing to a higher level whilst offering maximum stability.

The 10'4 X.Wide all rounder performance is best described as 70% surfing - 30% paddling. Ultimately the 10'4 X.Wide all rounder offers surfing performance that allows you to progress way beyond current abilities.

The Hull Paddlers or Hull AA's improve the glide and paddle-ability of the board and still maintain wave performance as Leroy as found out.

The new Hull's are a completely different board that break through current limitations, offering improved glide, speed and forgiveness in and around the white water.

The 10'2 Hull AA's performance is best described as 50% surfing -50% paddling.

The full extent of the surfing performance of these new boards is still to be tested as most people surfing them are still progressing.

They will change the way we think of board performance.

We look forward to further updates Leroy!

Hi Fellas would the 10,4 be a good board for the bigger days , im thinking paddling wise when a big sweep is on , windy and large fat waves. Also im guessing like Blanes other boards with the pixie nose , handles the occassional late take off.

Cheers

10'4 doesn't have the pixie nose, it's more rounded. I reckon the 9'11xWide would be better for what you would use it for. When you say bigger days I know you mean it.

I think 9,11 maybee a bit to small and the 12 gun a bit to big maybee , although never tried it. Thinking of something that paddles pretty fast so you can get out quick , get into them early cause im a wussy and dont like taking steep drops
And nice and stable as usually when it gets big at places like the alley there is usually a lot of water moving about and its very windy.Thats why i thought the 10,4. Not so much thinking of perfromance once on the wave , just making it easier to get back out to catch another one

i don't know why, but the alley seems to be a bit of a swell magnet at the moment.

yeah teatrea,i believe even when it's average good alley the water movement, wind and just the lenght of the paddle outs has to be considered if your getting a board and the alley is your local.

PSH thread so I can ask a question maybe.

Is the 10.6 wide still a popular board or has it been super seeded?if so by what in the PSH range?

Hey Makaha, the 10'6WAA and the 10'WAA are still the two most popular boards in the Board works range

The 10'4 XWAA has basically replaced the 11WAA
The new Hulls are giving the 12' Gun a run for its money
The new 9'2 Wide Ripper, rips over the 96 Wide Ripper
The 8'9 and 8'11 Ripper seem to be taking over from the classic 9'3 Ripper

Hope that helps

Right on Lacey , i drove past today from alley to snapper and alley looked like it was picking up some nice waves , kirra looked good too and not a sole out.The great thing about the alley when its big and sweepy the shorties and mals basically disssapear and you have the joint to ya selfexpecialy since the tow ins are barred.

see ya at training
