When the PSH 12ft guns came out they hit with a bang and rightly so!

I have surfed mine in 6 inch ripples to doudle overhead and they perform like a dream. When I chose my boards for Mambo I wanted something I could ride in all conditions so the 12ft gun was the 1st one on the roof.

There hasnt been much press recently about these boards recently, so it was interesting to see how many guns appeared at the Bar Beach by magic and then appeared again on the downwinder.

Casso 1st place in the Masters was killing it on the gun in 1 ft at the Bar doing the most stylish laybacks you have ever seen.

Jason from Torquay was also rippin it up in the sub 1 ft surf and impressed all that saw him.

I had a great session at 1ft Bar Beach, even though I had no paddle fitness having been out with broken ribs for 11 weeks and was stiff as a board. I could throw some nice little cutties then rip down the line on the fast inside sections.

Jason, Casso and I also used the guns for the challenging to say the least Merimbula Bar to Pambula River Mouth downwinder. Casso and Jason were in the front runners and the gun with thier lighter frames was a Ferrari.

I still believe this is one of the most versitile boards on the market.

Thanks for the pic DJ, the kids love the view of thier handy work with the Mr Chompy deck grip!

Worrier lots of the Sea Breeze Crew have snapped the 12ft guns up and then they just reappear when you least expect it.

I dont know how many people around home have used mine to get started then bought their own. It allows them to progress really quickly.

Sounds like you have a nice megger quiver building there in the west.

One of my more memorable Mambo sessions was hitting the bar late on Saturday evening as the sun was going down. Tide was coming in and it was getting full so everyone left - perfect time to bring out the Gun. Even at 1-2', a glassy wall with a setting sun on it is hard to pass up when you can scream along the face on the 12'er. Even managed to throw in some cut-backs.
1/1/2 hours later I headed for home with a big grin on the face.

Pulled it out again next day for the BB B2B Sup off and thanks to Goatman's awesome leg it cruised into second. Yeah I'm braggin but this board does put a smile on your face - at least a couple of times a day.

Phill, AA, Boylos and others,
How would you compare the stability of the 12 footer to say the 106 wide AA, 11 foot wide AA, 116 kalama? I agree there's times when you'd just like to relax and cruise and glide on those 1 to 2 foot peelers with not enough push to get the short board up and going. Robdog

Robdog, at just under 29" wide it is not as stable as the 30" wide boards (106waa), but that is also one of the reason it is fast in the small stuff and paddles well on flat water/ocean paddling.
It is always a trade-off I guess.
The surfing is in the super fine tail - step back and she comes back at you pretty quick for a board that size!

Hi Robdog hope everyone is well, and say hi to Mr Brook.

The PSH 12 Gun is narrow however it is very forgiving.

Less stable than the 10'6 wide as it is only 28+ for a short part of the rails but you would love it.

Lots of glide robdog and if it can carry my wide backside in 1ft peelers it has enough horse power for most people.

I think session has a demo, or if you want you can try out Mr Chompy any time you like.

I think those big big days down south might just be the ticket for this board

Ha! After a winter working/hibernating I reckon you might need to strap two 12 footers together. Looking forward to you cutting back on work and getting back out there. Robdog

Thanks AA and Phill for the info.

The 12er is what sup is about; the push for shorter and shorter is exactly what windsurfing and surfing did. The average guy cannot ride what pros ride we want to have something that makes it fun. The 12er does it in spades I love mine.

But mine is 14kg oh dear I might put my back out oh no!! Htfu princess. They are the bomb.

Yeah HTFU mate! Perfect WA outer reef weight I would have thought.

Latest shipment, with handles (bare) sub 11 kilo's.

Best suggestion to lighten her up? Take the thrusters out and run it as a single fin!

You know you want to!

Yes we all know you love your big stuff Hilly, & I love my big stuff a 15kg 20'er!
But to say average people can't ride & have fun on what pro's ride is garbage Hilly.
First timers weighing 90kg are riding my old 8' 2"s.......and having fun!
I give them a choice & they go for what they find the most fun.
What do pro's ride?
Is this a pro board?

It is quaint that you consider 30 inch wide boards longer than 7 foot high performance LSD. Er the context was surfing the potato chips slater rides are not fun for the average guy. So it is not garbage why do you go the man always, play the ball read the post.

In your opinion average sup rider can ride a 8 by 26 by 4 board? That is what the pros want. Jacko is even smaller 7 10 I think.

My point was surfing went too far and so did windsurfing I hope sup does not. The 12er is the roots so to speak. Unfortunately it is not yellow so it is unspeakable on this forum please note tongue in cheek I don't want to be lynched

All of the top riders at the MAMBO were on the shortest boards they could get their hands on-

Jacko 8'
Lummers 9' ( long board background)
Casso 8'10
Goatman 8'9
DTM 8'10 (?)

All these boards were narrow, had low volume rails and were very tippy (if I hopped on one)- exemplified by going big the night before.
Jacko was a classic one morning - looked like he was still partying out there!

Most of us aspire to ride shorter but at the end of the day it is only a very small market who can ride short, narrow, low volume boards that the Pro's ride (not talking short, wide, high volume short boards here).

The real fun for most of us is to be had on longer boards that allow us to get in early and scoot along smaller waves and if you find one that also rips in head high and above, then you have a 'keeper'.

I have definitely noticed a trend with some of out top surfers up here to go bigger. Both Tom and Matt Granger are sticking with 9' right now.

There are a lot of crew out there that have been doing this for more than 2 years that are coming back to slightly bigger boards and adding a high performance Gun to the quiver to bring back the versatility that got us into this addiction in the first place.

Most of the SUPer's on the breeze are old farts(me included) who have been around for a while and been through the whole shortboard/windsurfin thing where boards went too short and thin for the average Joe. Im too old and wise now to get fooled again goin too short
At 45 years old I know my skill level, the local conditions and what I want out of my SUPs. I will stay on the larger boards as my preference.
I also need LSD, DC and Lacey and the boys on the short SUP's to keep pushin the boundaries on the shorter gear. The more they push the envelope the more advances they discover. These will then will filter through to the SUP's I will buy in the future.
Maybe I can get down to 1 SUP that does everythin I want.

Agree AA and Hilly, an 8'2" board that is 32" wide is not high performance IMO, just a stable rice bubble like that funky new little Naish board.

Jacko is 75 kegs and rides an 8 foot sub 26 inch wide board (and rips on it!)

Lummers' board might be 9 foot but is 26 something wide and he is 90 kg.

Narrow and lower volume rails is where it's at for high performance IMO and will not suit everyone.

Goatman,
You have hit the nail on the head so well, you are so right.
I have been doing my own shapes and have a 8'3" x 30" that has thin, high performance rails and find this board rips in the small to meduim stuff. (bigger than 1-2 foot, up to 4 foot) also shaped a 7'8" x 30, but cos of my weight, I added in extra volume and went away from the rails on my 8'3". My 7'8" simply is no good. So the moral of the story is ride as short as you can but the rails and profile must remain thin and high performance or it simply will not work. Drive is the key and rails are a major factor. My next shape will be 8'2" x 28.75" x 3.75".
