Aloha Bruddahs: I weigh 200lbs., solid, carry most in my chest (not low in the belly), currently have a 9'6" Naish in my quiver and I love it...once I am surfing it. In between sets it is very tippy- a lot of work. Considering selling it and getting the PSH 9'6" Wide Ripper in hopes it will be more stable, but still very loose in the surf. Feedback would be very appreciated. Mahalo.

I've paddled both and found the PSH a little more stable for me.

I'm also about 200 lbs and also carry my weight high.

You should also concider the 9'5" Naish Mana.. .. It's even more stable.

I owned a 9'6WR and have ridden the naish owned by a mate a number of times. In my experience the 9'6WR was less stable when waiting than the Naish. The slightly fuller outline in the nose of the Naish helps stability when waiting IMO. I also found the Naish surfed better in the conditions I usually found myself. I am 190lbs. Hope that helps.

Persevere.

I have the Naish 9'6" and am also about 200lb (90kg), it is a little tippy but after time you get used to it. That's not to say I don't fall from time to time though, but it is worth it once you get on a wave, I love it.

I am making this comment with no knowledge of how a PSH goes though, never ridden one.

I agree with aus301, persevere.
Brooko has the 96 Naish and I can remember a day when he was ready to put an axe thru it, now he loves it, swears by it. He's over 100kg.
I have the psh 96 wide ripper and reckon its a great board too. I have ridden Brooko's Naish many times and there's not much in it stability wise between the two, I'd say the Naish is slightly more stable, but I prefer the way the psh rides the wave. Robdog

I have paddled both boards, I used to own 9'6 Naish (now the 8'10) I will agree with the comment above the Naish is more stable to stand on while waiting for your next wave and more stable when trying to paddle on to a wave compared to PSH 9'6 wide ripper. The naish 9'6 is a great board that allowed me to progress quickly and learn heeps Thanks Rod.

I have ridden both and could not reccommend the 96 naish highly enough, it rips.
I have changed the fins to the smaller fcs 4s and they have loosened the board right up. I have surfed this thing in anything from 1 ft mush to a solid 6 ft plus.

I am over 100kg and carry most of my weight around my beer belly maybe thats the difference, lower centre of gravity

These are two very good boards with subtle differences. I have spoken to many people over the last year about the differences and have come to the conclusion that it really boils down to your style. You cant go wrong with either

My take is that you will get two different stories on these two boards for two main reasons-
1. They carry their volume differently. generally lighter guys (under 90kg) find the Naish more stable as it sits lower in the water. The PSH carries more volume under your feet which is great if you are a bit heavier.

Whichever way you go, once you are used to one board you will find the other not as stable as you have to adapt to a different feel under your feet.

2. These boards have quite different rockers and very different tails which suit different styles and types of surfing. The Naish has more rocker and generally feels 'looser' in smaller surf. The PSH has a flatter rocker and feels drivier - some say faster. It comes alive with some juice.

These are two boards you definitely need to try in various conditions to work out which one works best for you.

I have seen guys absolutely shredding on both. It is easy to fall in love with either of these two boards.

Exactly as AA just stated it The naish sits really low in the water, the Psh feels a bit more floaty.
I actually thought Robdogs Psh was a tiny bit more stable than the Naish , and was probably a bit more drivey and faster down the line, the naish seemed to turn tighter arcs, could be the small fins I had in mine. Both great boards either way, 10 outa 10 for both for my 2c worth

I really appreciate all the feedback. As I already own the Naish and was considering swapping for the PSHWR, I will certainly need to demo the PSH to feel the difference for myself. Be safe. Aloha and Mahalo.

No worries Brent. Just one other thing - fins are everything on these and most high performance boards.

As the 9'6wr is my weapon of choice (90kg) I have played a for bit with the fins.
Put a quality 6" centre - like a Futures Performance/ Fluid Foils 6' and some decent medium sized side bites and watch how this board goes. Moving the centre fin also has a big effect on performance related to wave size. - just forward of centre in the small stuff and 3/4 back when it gets overhead.

Many consider the 9'6 wide ripper to be one of Blane's best. I would recommend not buying any 9'6 without trying the PSH9'6wr and the Naish 9'6 in a variety of conditions.
