For those that have travelled with their gear overseas, just wondering how far you went with protecting your paddle, whether you slipped in the board bag or kept it seperate?

Thanks

Chris

Hey Chris,
Just got back from Bali and put my paddle in a paddle cover in my board bag with the board.
Watched the bag handlers pack in the board and it was too heavy for them to throw in the plane so I think that might of saved it getting trashed.

Both board and paddle in perfect condition each way.

Hey Chris

I just came back from Samoa and got paddle, sup and two short boards there and back unmarked.

I wrapped the paddle in two layers of bubble wrap, put it in its cover, taped on a piece of polystyrene cut to fill the 170 degree angle of the blade and duct taped the paddle to the deck of the sup outside the cover so that nothing could get caught under the handle or blade.

Probably overkill, but it worked for me.

Cheers Bill

Hey Chris - if you are really worried I know woogie does a really good two piece full carbon paddle. Have seen him using it in solid conditions and it stood up. Just another option.
Bill.

I bought an adjustable padded travel cover - can't remember the brand - but it works a treat, no damage so far on a heap of domestic flights.

I would keep them separate as i've seem some serious damage from trying to rest a paddle in side a board bag with a sup inside aswell.
I just wouldn't trust any baggage handler!!

yes i pack them seperate to PNG at chrissy and they were both fine i have a quick blade paddle cover and its sic! heaps of padding and fits 2 paddles so i had a spare, also i no its hard with most sups but try and keep it light as possible like dont put all ya clothes etc in ya board bag as the lighter it is the easier for the baggage handler to lift and hes less likly to get the sh!ts and take it out on your sup.
