I am looking for some tips on how to patch up the edge of my paddle. One of the edges has been damaged and I would like to repair it cheaply. I was thinking of some fibreglass tape and resin?!? but I have never doen this type of thing before. Other option is to take it to a repairer.

I have just bought a new quickblade (awesome paddle, amazing, fantastic!), but want to keep the old as a spare.

Any detailed instructions or advice would be appreciated

First thing to do is to get some electrical tape around the edges of your brand new Quick Blade before it matches your old paddle.

I find Nitto electrical tape the best and put on 2 layers.

Off topic - any one tried taping off the edges 5-10mm in and putting a coat of clear silicon sealant around it?

The paddle edge really needs to be clean otherwise your paddle will plunk on entry and you will loose the bite on the paddle. Nitto tape works fine just replace it every few weeks it also protects the rails on your board.
