Hey everybody.
I know you guys might have talked about this a thousand times already but what is everyones opinion on paddle length for the surf?
I started out as everyone might of done with a paddle that felt 15 foot long. I gradually got smaller and smaller until my paddles are roughly 6 foot (head high). It seems to me so much easier in the surf for quick turns for positioning for take off and also transfer from left to right for cutbacks. Also doesn't "catch" anywhere near as much when i need to paddle fast with a shallow paddle stroke.
What is everyone else surf paddle length?

I find all this pretty interesting.. btw mine is about 8" over head height for waves (and 12" over for flat water).

Im still new to this sport but currently +10 for general use and +6 for surf. I am thinking of chopping another 2" from my general paddle as it still feels a bit too long but I wont touch the surf paddle until i master my style or lack of.

when your paddle is too long and your top hand is above you shoulder line you will damage your rotor cuff(shoulder joint),the hawaiians i believe have surf paddles down to head high,we had been about 7 inches but are reducing to about a clenched fist(4inches),this length seems to be faster in the wave face,i still use a level shoulder line flatwater
