How do you determine the length of paddle?
I need to cut my carbon paddle to suit me.
Thanks

Don't start me......This is a biggie for me..

Some sites say 6" above your height..some say 8-10"..Mine is 13" above my height.

The latest SUP how to vid says between 10-12".

I think the best thing to do is turn the paddle upside down.

With the handle on the ground the base of the blade (where the blade meets the shaft) should be at eye level.

Cool thanks DJ
Ive heard those too but I also read on a site which said 7".
But the good bloke at the shop told me exactly the why you said by standing the handle on the ground and eye level should be where the blade meets the shaft.
It looks like I need to cut about 2 1/2 inches?
Thanks again

Just got my new 12ft Laird a couple of weeks ago. I'd been trolling thu the forums doin all the research etc for just how much to take off the length settled on a 'Shaka' (7in) more than my height.
Ive got myself convinced though after 3-4 hrs of solid paddlling that I'd love 2-3 more inches back on my brand new Carbon paddle. Doh!

Any sugestions??

Thinkin of buying one of those cheaper Variable length paddles, so I can give the girlfriend a go with a suitable length paddle and also test out my theory. I think I saw one at Airborne WA.

Yeah I have heard of the shaka but to me that was abit dodge as we all have different hand sizes.

I went out again today and have still kept the paddle the original length. To me it doesnt really seem that long although when I do get it into the waves im guessing I probably will want to cut in down an inch or two?

Yeah the Laird's great, Not that I've used anything else. Feels really stable and has a glidey feel. But dont really know....
Done a couple of little down winders Hillarys to Whitfords ave and Port beach to Cott, aswell as a long trip Ocean Reef to Pinaroo Pt rtn that took just under 2hrs on calm day.
Just wanna do heaps of that sort of stuff to build up my fittness for a Boat trip comin up in May.I used to Paddle boards as a clubbie when I was younger so just gunna give some of my old training runs a bit of a crack and have a bit of fun.
I'm just in Craigie if your keen for a palddle buddy.
