Picker, it's roughly 30k from Redcliffe closest point. Wouldn't do it unless it's dead dead flat ocean or blowing dead west to down wind. Otherwise WSW if you left from the mouth of the port maybe..
It won't be flat this Friday looks like a northerly Thursday turning South Friday..

Few local sup guys including me want to do It one day but we most likely will do it with a support boat for safety.
The bay can go from glass to rough in an hour and reuin your day real quick. Spoken to a couple OC1 guys and they have done it but they did it from moreton back to bris as it didn't really matter what area of bris they landed at course wise as they had arranged a pick up from where ever they got blown to so they could chase the bumps. Ended up at Sandgate in the end.

Oh yeah the big biters out there are big apparently but I've never seen them yet fishing in the waters.

Yeh I agree with AndyR. I been across there a lot in my boat to spearfish out off Moreton and there are a lot of changes in current direction and tidal movements that can turn pretty ugly in some areas and make paddling really difficult. It certainly is doable but a support boat and good fitness is a good idea. Maybe a strong easterly and start at the island.

Cheers dude.

Safety is something that is often ignored in our sport

We should all understand the need to pre plan, learn watch and monitor the weather, notify people of your plans route eta, alongside having plan A B C in the unfortunate event of an emergency.

I proudly always wear a small pfd with EPIRB (plb) thanks to ARC. I have a few PLB's but find the ARC most durable and easy to attach. Its lightweight, long lasting and has serveral attachment points. If you are going offshore it will be soon manditory in some states in the coming years...

I also carry a waterproof phone in a vacuum sealed bag, a rescue laser (Flare alternative - rip off, useless in daytime, but small, long lasting and not a dangerous good) whistle, seamarker dye and best of all a mirror. (Free, long lasting, durable) No joke. If at night get some cheap bike lights off eaby so people can see you.

Having pushed my luck before, there is no point in having a ton of money if you can never spend it, stuck, alone at sea..

Simple things like always wearing a leash with some quality rope, having a plan, a PLB (300$ dont be tight) and loving what the adventure will bring, will keep us safe.

Things happen. Weather changes. Gear breaks. Sharks need dinner.

I am often supprised by the lack of any safety gear people carry while downwinding. Its not hard to throw it in your camelbak.
I hope to make a quick video of safety gear sometime soon.

You dont have to go crazy, and carry what might be a ton, but have some, AND know how to use it. Makes us all look average when emergency services spend hours looking for a potential missing person. Don't let that be you.

Coastwatch also have a good app if you want to log a trip and eta before they launch a rescue.

In saying that, I love to paddle far out the middle of nowhere.

Hope to see you out on the water sometime.

Cheers
