I was wondering how bad sun and heat is for a carbon paddle...
Like putting a paddle in the car, with part of the paddle in the sun.......

On a scale of 1 to 10....
I'm thinking board in car, in direct sunlight, with vent screw in, is about "10 - really bad".
But paddle might be about "2 out of 10, slightly bad"..... But if you did this to your paddle every single day, it might elevate to a "5"......
I'm guessing....!

Good carbon paddle shaft will be very heat tolerant, some up around 250 deg c, blades well thats is another story, depends on the epoxy & post curing, it can be rather low, heat in a car may soften it slightly, but not perminently damage it....unless it was deformed while hot & then let cool.....but the cool thing about epoxy is.....reheat it then reset the shape.
In time, UV exposure will degrade epoxy unless it is a UV proof resin or has a clear UV coating. Car window glass.....does that reduce UV ?
Simon......do you want me to bring that small diameter tube tomorrow?

I've heard of people leaving their good carbon paddle in their car on a stinker and getting to the beach and going to pull their paddle out of their car and the shaft has just pulled out of the blade because the extreme heal has melted the aroldite glue.

I imagine the biggest problem may be extreme heat causing a foam cored paddle blade to "outgas" and delaminate the skins off , I would be suprised if the heat is enough to soften araldite (epoxy glue) but Hot glue" can easily let go.
Agree with LSD , Most shafts are made of prepreg and are heated way higher to cure/post cure the resin used in thier manufacture.
